The keyless entry pad is a great thing in situations like this. Going somewhere you might get wet or just don't want your key fob at all? Just lock the fob in the truck and use the code to get in later. It won't help if you broke the fob but it lessens the chance of damage or losing it.

FWIW. The dash thread is standard tripod size. 1/4-20 But I'm getting suction mounts for my gopros. One I can mount outside. The other inside the windshield. The dash mount seems awfully low for a good view. You will lose a good few feet of view mounting it that low.
