Forgot to talk about the strut. Be careful because the factory strut allows the tailgate to open too far and the can/mount will break the tail light. You can order a 28" strut off of Amazon. I got the one with 30 lbs of opening force, works perfectly.

My can which I bought at a farm store is a Midwest brand and empty it weighs 9.5 lbs. 5 gallons of gas at 6 lbs a gallon is 30 so yeah right at 40.

Stainless steel 5/16-18 x 3/4 cap screws from Menards. I used all 8 mounting points on the Hammer plate!

It doesn't rest against the tailgate itself, but against the reinforcement plate.

The weight of the mount is exactly 9 pound's less then the can full of petrol, but it probably is over built! I've been running around with it for awhile now, no problems. Taking it to Colorado next week for the get together in Buena Vista so see how it goes.

Decided to build a Jerry can mount after not finding anything currently available. It's made out of steel and I will probably build one out of aluminum to cut down on the weight. It's mounted on a Hammer Built tailgate reinforcement plate and so far so good!

Yeah, I'm not sure whom else to escalate it too either! I've talked to dealership, they have talked to the regional rep, no info! I haven't owned a Ford in over 30 years, last one was a 68 Bronco, but if the quality is anything like there customer care , God help me!

Sounds like my experience with Ford. Does not do anything for my confidence in their product! But there are a lot of folks that have had reservations and orders a lot longer then me that don't have a Bronco yet, so I don't bitch too loud!
