Just for clarity, that's Utah in general, not Moab specifically. SxS and other OHVs are officially allowed on streets, just not interstates or highways where the speed limit is over 50 mph. They need to have turn signals, taillights, brake lights, etc (and therefore a lot of SxSs need minor...
We found a fixer-upper:
And a rock....
So... Seems I'll be upgrading the OEM tires a bit sooner than planned... Can't patch that, and already have patches in a couple of the other ones...
But at least it was fun!
New design: Things now wrap around the outside of the roll bar and I salvaged some elastic netting from a dog barrier that didn't work well. The netting helps keep smaller items in place. No issues with things bouncing around so far, but again, everything there is very light.
Closer to a Subaru. And there's better aftermarket for Subarus, so while the sport is better stock, the gap gets close quick with modifications.
With that said, here's an interesting video comparison. Heavily modified Crosstrek with an experienced driver vs a stock sport with an inexperienced...
I've pushed my badlands sport quite hard and had the system overheat twice, both in many miles of deep sand. In both cases it cooled down and was fine not long after. And yeah, I was 20 miles up a very remote beach and was worried the first time, but it turned out to be a non-issue after a few...
I actually do have some grommet pliers, but the grommets I have are quite small and the bolts won't fit through them. They're also beveled and not flat. Melting seemed good enough for now, but yeah, if things tear, I'll get some larger grommets. I'm not too worried about these pulling out for my...
Yeah, fair enough! I didn't realize the other trims got the full twin clutch package with sasquatch. The aux switches are a very nice touch too.
Also, on a side note, I really wish those side tie down hooks were easily retrofittable on the older sport models. I'd definitely use them a lot. I...
Just for whatever is worth, they're no more an escape than the 6g is a ranger. Same platform, sure, but very different vehicles. I own a sport badlands as well. It's gone on plenty of moderate trails. I've driven lots of escapes (though never owned one) and I'd never take them on the trails I...
Well, I mean, I worry about him a lot, but airbags aren't great for dogs in general. He's clipped in, but a wreck with gear in the back is going to be bad for everyone. I'm not sure the straps are going to interfere that much, either way. The way the hole in the end is done (no grommet) means...
Potentially when it's rigged up, but most of the time it's unclipped and there's nothing across the airbag area.. It's the same screws used by the paracord grab handles. There's also no rear seats in my case, so the rear airbags are less of a concern.
I'm always looking for ways to use space as efficiently as possible in my 2 door. There's a lot of vertical space in the rear I'm currently not using well. I need to leave most of the rear open for my pup, but I've been looking for a way to temporarily store lightweight things along the rear...
Works great on top, even in a 2-door with a half rack. The AAL sleeper keeper is nice, but definitely not needed. You can strap it down easily without it.
I've never had any issues with it getting too wet when driving in the rain with it on the roof. I do have the heavier bag and I would never...
FWIW, traction boards are _way_ more useful for smaller vehicles. They've gotten me out of some rough spots with other vehicles, but I've gotten even more folks out without needing to reach for more invasive tools. A shovel and traction boards are really good tools to have, even if you don't...
Does anyone know if these are adjustable enough to take the lighter weight of 2-doors into account? I'd naively expect different coils for 2-door vs 4-door (and 2.3 vs 2.7), similar to OEM. But the difference isn't that large, and the adjustability here might easily compensate for that...
Personally, I did not need any extra or longer bolts. However, I did need a clamp to compress things so I could start the threads when installing the "lowering brackets".
The bolts it comes with are plenty long enough. But it's hard to hold things in place one-handed with enough pressure to...
That may be true in many places, but at least within the US, where the Everest and several other things aren't available, they very squarely complete with each other. A lot of folks decide between a 4-door bronco and a 4Runner for a fairly large off-road focused SUV. Perhaps more so that between...
At least for a 2-door, a strap around the back roll bar works very well. Keeps the pup from going too far forward or jumping out the back while still letting them move side to side as far as they want. Admittedly, we've taken things to the extreme, and he has a whole setup in place of the rear...
The sport is actually pretty good for what it's meant to be, i.m.o. We have one. Sure, it's a "Ford Forester", but that's not a bad thing. It replaced a Forester for us, and it's significantly better off road than the Forester was. It fills the same role otherwise. Until recently, we only had...
