  1. I'll paint my own dam top: MOD vs MIC

It's all in the prep. I have a friend that paints plastic bumpers all the time without issue. Bronco MIC aren't made of some super special polymer here guys....it's highly likely the same plastic used for plastic bumpers and the like.
  2. I'll paint my own dam top: MOD vs MIC

    This is also another option...
  3. I'll paint my own dam top: MOD vs MIC

If Jeep owners can successfully paint their MIC tops, we can do too. End of the day, painting the top will likely still be far cheaper than purchasing a whole new top; moreover, I highly doubt we are going to be able to buy already painted tops. Likely what we will be given access to is a primed...
  4. I'll paint my own dam top: MOD vs MIC

The heat treat process is apparently very common with plastic. Just about anything plastic - at the factory - is heat treated.
  5. I'll paint my own dam top: MOD vs MIC

So I've been doing a lot of research on how I can just paint an MIC top and say the hell with waiting. Few challenges: -The texture issue: spoke to some shops, it can be taken down, not an issue -Plastidip: sure, but that's no fun -The big one: apparently what makes painting these tops a...
  6. 2022 Club: the painted top

I spoke to a shop today and he said the main issue is these MIC tops have a mold release agent in the plastic that slowly leaches out. From the factory, I believe they deal with this by either using a different plastic or heat treating the plastic to pull out the agent - then they can be painted.
  7. 2022 Club: the painted top

I'm super choked by this whole thing. I can't wait until 2023. I'm a day two reso. I'm thinking I may just get an MIC, drive it for a year, trade it in when the Warthog and painted tops are ready. I've also considered the Defender.....
  8. Thoughts on the modular top roof delay?

Update: your joke still isn't funny.
  9. Thoughts on the modular top roof delay?

This is such a stupid thing to say. Joke is getting old Regardless whether I cancel, you ain't getting your Bronco anytime soon, bud.
  10. Thoughts on the modular top roof delay?

I'm personally done with this whole roof shit. I'm not making a compromise and driving around with a soft top or a vehicle that's half painted. Crazy. No one should be putting up with this. This vehicle isn't ready
  11. 6/25 Email & FAQ: Modular Hardtops Delayed Until 2023MY | Price Protection Extension | Free Hardtop Prep Kit

I'm sorry, this is absolutely f$#king bullshit. I was ready to wait until Q1, Q2 22 for a painted roof. Another year? No worth it. Not going to make a compromise and pay $60k for a half painted vehicle because I'm impulsive and ford is incompetent. This vehicle clearly isn't ready for the...
  12. I'm happy for you...

I'm excited, I'm happy, for all those that have waited - in many cases far long than me - and will soon receive their Broncos. I'm a modular hardtop hold out. Will likely be waiting until Q1-Q2 22. But, that's ok. Soon I'll be able to retire my 200k 2012 Wrangler and meet you all on the streets...
  13. I wonder: 2022 Model

Who knows at this stage. Covid continues to cause supply chain issues.
  14. I wonder: 2022 Model

I ordered a Bronco with a black painted top. I've told I'll get a 2022 model year. But I wonder, what exactly does that mean, since many manufacturers start pushing out next year models in the fall/winter of a given year. Spring 2022, Summer, 2023? Now it appears Ford is struggling even with...
  15. 2022 Club: the painted top

That's really the reality I think we are in...the Bronco is a 2022 release. That's how I've rationalized. I think many don't know, and haven't fully comprehended, just how much Covid fucked supply chains.
  16. 2022 Club: the painted top

It's unlikely, like Jeep, you'll be able to buy a pre painted hardtop. Could be wrong. But wouldn't count on it. What you'll likely be able to buy is a primed/ready to paint top. As is the case with every manufacturer. You'll pay a premium; supply will be limited; you'll have to pay someone...
  17. 2022 Club: the painted top

It's not guessing - it's a qualitative analysis based on what is known to be true in the current market, using similar examples - i.e. the Jeep Wrangler. The argument isn't about the magnitude of changes and whether there will be a large delta between 2021 and 2022 model years. What we know for...
  18. 2022 Club: the painted top

We have a funny way of rationalizing our decisions in the name of instant gratification: oh I'll just sell my MIC and buy a painted top, blabal. But the reality will likely be very different. This roof will cost a small fortune aftermarket - it's not going to be 2.5k - if you'll even be able to...
  19. 2022 Club: the painted top

I wheel my Jeep offroad all the time. It's White, still looks great. Ever worried, I'd say apply PPF and you're invincible.
