I'm a bit confused, do you have the upfitter switches? Normally you'd just tie into one of the wires under the hood. Only reason to use a fuse tap is if you don't have switches and want something to turn on when the truck is on.
You do like those of us who had a recall for the 2.7's for the valves... you drive it for a year + wondering if it will break down. Eventually they'll come up with a plan of attack, test your engine (probably) and send you on your way with an extended warranty on the engine. It's the Ford way...
You say easily, I say another $600+ out the window. When I never had this issue in the past with non-turbo engines.
Wouldn't a pedal commander help with throttle lag? Have that installed, still not the same as driving a non-turbo engine.
After reading your post, you can see why I'd rather Ford just drop a V8 in these things. And not some stupid Jeep 392 for $100k, just make it a $5k add or whatever for a standard V8, call it a day. Look at everything you had to add to your Bronco just to fix this one simple issue of turbo lag.
With these gas prices? And with this being a truck and not required, I don't bother with 93 octane. I've run a few tanks on it, never saw a great improvement and figured it was a waste of money.
As for you 90's with the 302, that engine had nothing on the 351. No the 351 wasn't a rocket, but...
When he said the 3.73 gears make more boost, I took that as the turbo spooling, creating more boost.
I don't believe it's a shifting thing either. If I were to simplify just for myself, Go with 3.73 gears if you want less acceleration, better gas mileage, go with 4.70 gears if you want better...
Aww shucks, a fellow (albeit ignorant) Jerseyan put me on ignore, after starting with me... How will I ever go on with life? Should've known based on your list of vehicles.
And yes, flick of the wrist to a useless Sport Mode is always the right choice I assume?
Thank you @Snacktime, that...
This is my 4th. I love the Bronco. Hate the engine. No need to worry about whether or not a vehicle I purchased is for me or not, I'm old enough to make my own decisions. But thanks for your concern.
No point missed...
1. Sport mode considerably sucks down more gas.
2. Tried Sport mode in the past, stomped pedal... truck accelerated (or lack there of), about the same as Normal mode, just slightly more responsive.
3. Installed pedal commander... still turbo lag.
4. The 2.7l is a little bitch...
I think you may have missed my point.. Not worth my time... because it isn't, I'm not looking for a sports car with 35's. I'm looking for something that'll tow a trailer, and go when I hit the gas. That's why I could care less about getting a tune.
It's not worth my time to put it in Sport mode, which mind you I have in the past..... and it was only slightly quicker. Still would lose to the 2.3l.
And it's not like I'm driving in a Mustang, I don't need to do 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. But if you mash the pedal, it doesn't move. If you're...
I would say no... in theory yes, but in reality no.
I have a 2.7l BaseSquatch (4.70 gears), my kid has a 2.3l Big Bend (3.73 gears). Both of us are running 35's. I swear his is alot quicker off the line, and I blame it on the turbo lag of the 2.7l.
I know I'm just a broken record over here...
As @swami37 stated, it's about a 3-4 hour job, definitely helps if it's a 2-man job. Rears are easy. The front is the issue as you are dealing with the cv axle. Otherwise, not too bad. Definitely better than paying $1450!
I probably won't add much here, but I have 3 vehicles to compare from:
2017 Jeep JKU 6 cyl.
2021 Bronco 2.7l 6 cyl. (BaseSquatch)
2024 Bronco 2.3l 4 cyl. (Big Bend)
If I did it all over again, I'd go with the 2.3l. And you guys can say put a tune on it, so much better.. blah blah blah...
I have it happen to me on occasion. Simply just slide the bar across a second time and it usually works.
Anything software related with Ford has been hit or miss for years. That's why I turned off all the Sync updates. Every time it used to update, Android Auto would be fucked up for months.
So I have to ask.... exactly what is taking them 8.3 hours to do? I've replaced headlights (which include grill removal) in less than 30 minutes. I've dropped my bumper in probably 5 minutes. Where are the other 7+ hours they are billing you for?
Edit: If it were me, I'd pick up a grill off...
Honestly I've been so busy lately that I haven't had the time to even start this project. I'm hoping as summer rolls around I'll finally get some time on the weekends to start testing out ideas.
