I wonder how much value there is in upgrading the shafts on the M190. It seems like between the aluminum case and the weaker R&P gears, that upgrading the CVs might not be addressing the weakest link. I will be curious to see how all this works out as people start using these trucks more and...
I would debate this point at length - but it very much depends on the type of center diff in question. What you say was absolutely true on my Mazda 323GTX way back when. Three open diffs has distinct limitations.
But a lot of center diff systems aren't using open center diffs. With a VLSD...
Well, I don't suspect that there's a differential between the axles in the transfer case, but rather a clutch to drive the front when needed. In a turn, they open the clutch. Or possibly feather it to allow some drive across while allowing slip. It'll all be in the programming.
The M190 is also 29-spline? I had guessed from the above statements that the M190 is the same as the JK Dana30 that it would mean that it carried over the 27-spline side gears. Because now we're starting to talk about some significant interchange differences if that's not the case...
Interesting, because it looked like Quadratech lists M190 cases for 3.45 and lower ratios, and another model for 3.54:1 and up.
I know, I said that. But I was asking about the M210 design (trying to tie this discussion back to the original topic). Is the M210 related to any of the other designs?
I once watched a BITD class 7300 Ranger run an event with 4.56 front gears and 4.88 rears (because they couldn't get the 4.88s for the front at the time). Over the course of the event, the mismatch had the effect of winding up the front drivetrain like a giant torsion spring while in 4WD. It...
I found that Dana's aftermarket website indicates that the M190 has 12mm ring gear bolts. So, my next question is does the M190 keep the same carrier break as Dana30, or does it just use one or the other of the flange offsets (like with the JK D44)? Or is it a different offset yet (I'm guessing...
Is the JL Dana 30 gearset that you linked to still using smaller ring gear bolts, or have they upped them to 1/2"? I've heard mixed things. Is that why they don't interchange with JK axles, or is that more to do with pinion length or something along those lines?
Realistically, most buyers do not need or will not ever use the locker. But it is a required offering in order to be taken seriously in the off-road segment. Good tires and reluctant reliance on the traction control will get most people where they need, though a decent LSD will help that...
Here's some of what I saw today while setting up our own booth:
The last one is here just due to sheer badassery. Lots of Broncos new and old everywhere, though I haven't seen any (traditional) full-size Broncos yet. All either early Broncos or modern Broncos.
I have been able to compare both Ford and Jeep versions of the Dana M220 differential case. The ring gears should, if nothing else, interchange (at least on Ford locking axles - would still need a diff swap to work on the open). Can't comment on pinion. Definitely very different from a JK or...
Maybe. But it'd be moot if Ford doesn't as well. From a supplier's view, Ford is a chaotic mess to deal with. Every week, they update their "pull" forecast. And every week they order whatever quantities they feel like, the numbers having no relationship on what they forecast or what stated...
As someone that works in the supply chain - albeit on a niche volume level - I can say that this is cascading through everything.
Part of the problem is that when they have to idle production plants, even suppliers that have available production capacity for their widget get shut down. They, in...
I saw this too. I wonder what the differences are that let you put it on the Big Bend and OBX 2-doors, but not the Black Diamond 2-dr or the Badlands at all? Could it have something to do with the size of the spare tire on the door?
I thought I recalled Ford stating last year that the brake controller wouldn't be offered on Bronco. I'd be curious to find if the integrated controller would be a direct plug in. Was the accessory controller the same one that's used in the truck models?
It also could be that they only list that ratio as a standard rotation. That's basically gears that are cut for use in a rear axle, turned around and used up front. While you can do that (and most companies did until the early '80s), the ring gear drives on the high pressure angle side of the...
Weird. When I searched, I did by telling it I had a JL with a Dana 30. Seemed like an expedient way to narrow it down. In that search, it is not an option that comes up, even now. Skips from 4.11 to 4.56.
