Depending on the trim level, that tailgate hole is needed. We have an Outer Banks and have a button on the tailgate handle.

The Trail Armor can be used with the OEM Side Steps, I just had to remove the end caps off of the steps to get the front piece of the Trail Armor installed, otherwise it was very straightforward. Here's an install video I did of the process, if anyone is still wondering.

I just realized the obvious… depending if you have a soft top or a hard top… I have a soft top. You can just press the two levers that open up the soft top rear, use the small prop, and then reach your hand out and open the tailgate from the outside. I have the IAG Ez Soft Top strut on order...

Is there a way you could attach a paracord handle to the emergency release handle? Haven't really considered this yet and now I feel the need to go into the garage and investigate!
