is it possible to remove and reinstall the upper half on the other side of the base? And turn the base around so the long side of the bottom plate sits on top of the light gray part of the dash? Add a piece of thin rubber underneath to absorb some of the vibration to further help it.

looking at 2 door hardtop removal videos (here's 2 that I found), neither of them actually mentions removing bolts above the B pillar. So maybe the installation/assembly is fine, it's just a design issue?
