I'd rather have a US made vehicle. My 17' Tacoma is my first foreign vehicle out of 12 vehicles I've owned. I also bought my wife a 17' Audi S3; no US made corresponding vehicle.
Jeep a cult where no one can disagree; lol, totally incorrect. A person can be a fan of a vehicle and still criticize it. There are 94 pages on a JL forum about Jeep issues, repairs, etc., they don't seem to be too shy about noting problems.
I was originally wondering whether a used Raptor 450hp 3.5l eb would fit in to replace the 2.7l; that would seem to be a lot easier than trying to fit a Ford v8 in. (I don't think there's even room in the new Bronco engine bay to fit a v8, without some major changes to the front structure?) But...
If I wind up getting a Bronco, it'll be a 4 door, hardtop, 2.7l, the best one you can get, w/o going to tires larger than 32", I think that's the OB? I don't need tires any larger than the 255/70-18's, could change to better AT tires, but no larger than stock, if it comes with street tires.
Great reply Laminar, thank you. I'm not familiar with the 2.7l at all, but I've been reading a bit, and it is a very interesting design. I'd also normally say a 2.7l is way too small, but maybe it'll be fine.
Just curious, if I wind up eventually getting a Bronco, the 2.7l eb is looking OK, supposedly it will be able to be modded a bit as well, just wondering how the 3.5l eb dimensions match up? The 3.5l eb in the raptor seems to be working out pretty well. Just wondering.
The hardtop of the new Bronco seems thicker from the side view than the Wrangler hardtop, for some reason I thought there might be an option with a foam inner layer for more insulation? I could be totally off, maybe the edges of the Bronco hardtop are configured different from the Wrangler and...
Bmad, I think you may have some mistaken beliefs.
First; nobody knows yet if the most off road capable Bronco will match up with the most off road capable Wrangler, theres no comparison tests yet.
Probably more important though; very, very few people care.
How may Rubicons are ever actually...
Thanks for doing this OP, great work.
I've also been comparing dimensions. One thing I dont quite get; it seems like the Bronco is a bit more of a "cab forward" design, by that I mean the base of the windshield on the Bronco is maybe 5" or 6" closer to the front axle centerline, and the back...
I'm not a hard core rock crawler, so I prefer the Bronco's IFS, that is unless Jeep actually sells that 392. That 392 might be enough for me to go back to Jeep's poor quality and wandering steering. (I drove a JKUR for 6 years.)
Also looking at 4 door only. It looks very close to the Wrangler. I think the larger width and height numbers are for the Bronco's with the larger tires/ factory width. There could be some changes to the numbers; more exact for the different models down the road.
It's OK, I was hoping for more hp and a better tow rating.
(Btw; I've been running Gen. Grabbers on my 17' Tacoma DCSB OR for a couple years now, FWIW they've been perfect, absolutely no problems with them.)
Overall I like it, but it's definitely not as cool as a JLR or JLUR, the styling is sort of odd. I'm very disappointed in the 2.7l hp, and the tow rating. Maybe the aftermarket will help with the motor, and maybe a tow package will help the tow rating? I'm still interested in the Bronco, unless...
So far I like it...but not that much. Very disappointed with the 2.7 hp and the tow rating. I like the lack of carpeting, but the exterior styling is sort of odd, definitely not as cool as a JLR or JLUR. I'll have to see if a better tow rating comes out.
