You're kind of right. But I'll be honest, the spare itself is going to keep it from doing a great job anyway. I used a little pump sprayer with warm water to clean tough areas.

Sadly it's just an Android Auto issue, not specific to any phone or vehicle. I've been able to deal with it easily in the past (tap the AA button on the screen and it restarts) but my complaint is that the new update grays out that button while you're in motion.
