  1. EPA deregulation to kill Auto Start Stop (ASS)?

I had a slight concern about the ASS tech when it began showing up on new cars. My Bronco is the first new car I bought with it. So far, I am very impressed with how instantly the Bronco starts. The engine is running faster than I can remove my foot from the clutch pedal. Also, I have not seen...
  2. EPA deregulation to kill Auto Start Stop (ASS)?

:LOL:Yup, mine too! The ASS very rarely "turns off" my engine. In the very few situations (idling in traffic while in neutral) where I might want my engine to stay active, Ford put that disable switch right there by the shift lever. I'm guessing the ASS might seem a bigger issue for...
  3. New 2dr Manual Sasquatch. Love this thing.

Yup, looks are great, but the 2 door Broncos with MT are also crazy fun to drive. If you're like me, you may soon find yourself toking the longest route to the grocery store and other errands.
  4. Proper jump starting

I know I'm late getting these "volt meter to battery" photos uploaded to the Forum, but it's been a busy time. When jump starting a dead battery Bronco from a portable 'jump box" or another running vehicle, it does not matter where you connect the jumper cables. You can use to the battery...
  5. On Off Option when stopped.

One more... while the clutch pedal is depressed.

@grey25 , I got the manual hoist for less than $80 from Amazon. It's a small fee to test as @23BDBigSean suggested about topless before you commit to soft top only.
  7. Proper jump starting

Agreed. I was not questioning the purpose of the BMS. My point is that is in a parallel 12 VDC circuit, the test meter location does not matter and voltage will be nominally the same everywhere on the Bronco. Otherwise, there would be bigger electrical problems. When I recover from this flu...
  8. Proper jump starting

You're correct, nothing is going up hill. The shunt in the BMS is sill "in the right place". The "dead battery", its BMS, and the jumping car's battery are all in a parallel circuit with a common ground.
  9. Proper jump starting

In theory, the "distance" of the does cause a very slight voltage drop, but that would have to be hundreds of feet away to cause even a small detectable drop. Yes, in a few days, "I will try this at home".
  10. Proper jump starting

Yikes! "typical engineer". You have not yet explained how the Bronco's BMS measures magnetic fields! In the absence of any knowledgeable electricians, I will "do some basic research". I will use my own multimeter and measure voltage in the various locations described in this thread. However, I...
  11. Proper jump starting

But the BMS is not measuring magnetic fields. (By the way, I used your PDF for recalculating my Fuel MPG bias on a summer road trip. Thank you. It worked great.)
  12. Proper jump starting

First paragraph, second bullet. There’s no lower-resistance “shortcut” around it because the vehicle-side negative cable is attached exclusively to the output side of the shunt. Then the next paragraphs mention that the IS a short cut. That makes no sense in a common DC circuit, right...
  13. Proper jump starting

Yes, I know that, but this a steady state 12 VDC circuit, so the electromagnetic field is also at steady state and has no bearing on the BMS shunt resister.
  14. Proper jump starting

This AI text of the first paragraph contradicts itself with second and third paragraphs. For the record, I just retired from a company that is developing AI for the medical/pharmaceutical industries. AI is NOT yet ready to be trusted. Please see this following industry article from last...
  15. Proper jump starting

Like all other engineers, we had to study those principals. This is a simple DC circuit, so it does not involve electromagnetism.
  16. Proper jump starting

How is NOT possible to "see" current when the BMS shares the same common negative ground with the rest of the Bronco? Please let me know.
  17. Proper jump starting

Yes, I have used amp meters - the old Radio Shack analog meters with a mirrored needle display and the new digital ones. My point is the meter is between the "hot positive" and the "negative ground" so I don't think the physical "-" cable location matters.
  18. Proper jump starting

As I said earlier, I'm not an electrician. From a physical cable connection, I almost always connect to "ground" away from the battery, and it does start the car I'm jumping. However, if the "-" cable is connected to the battery post, wouldn't the circuit still "complete" through out the...
  19. Proper jump starting

Yes, while I agree the tab is NOT physically on the battery post side, I don't believe it matters for the negative ground connection -- unless someone at Ford poorly designed the BMS circuitry, but then these parts would be failing within hours of leaving the assembly line. If there is an...
  20. Oklahoma Factory painted hard top 2025 4 door

You're making a mistake selling your hard top. Buy a hoist from Amazon. You will need to be extra careful removing the occasional snow and ice storms in OKC. And the road noise in your cabin will be louder. I have a hoist in my garage and can go topless in less than 25 minutes, and back on in...
