Iām also in the process of brainstorming a system on my LR Disco 1 to use wedges/? chocks between the spare and the rear bumperā¦essentially taking weight off spare mount and rear door and onto bumper. The concept:

Resonant frequencies? - hard to track down, only way to eliminate is change one of the contributing frequencies, ie speed up, slow down, change RPM.etc
Do the OEM recovery points (shackle points) get altered at all?
Reason I ask is the Blue Ox flat tow system basically attaches to those slightly modified.
Did this setup for carrying rods w reels attached in my ā95 Defender and an identical setup in my ā97 Disco. Cabelas used to sell these double casesā¦..alas, no more.
