You'd be surprised, sometimes the Matte/satin finish really brings out the metallic flake in a funky new way. I'd request a small sample from your local installer and see how it looks on a small panel before committing to something more.
4k is likely close to just the cost of materials. Then there's labor on top of that. In this case, he works at a performance motors dealership, so he probably isn't factoring in cost of labor.
You CAN do this yourself, but it takes a lot of patience and experience, and I wouldn't advise it.
When you plan to use the vehicle every weekend in the sand, snow, rocks, mud and gravel, plus the highway miles to get to those places... you'll be grateful what your paint looks like after 5 years with this PPF on it.
May want to double check on this, but usually factory "privacy glass" doesn't offer any UV blocking protection. So to do only the front windows to match, you would be losing all of the UV blocking on the rear, cap and tailgate glass. If you're purely going for style point, then you're all set...
@Monsterdun yup, mine got bumped to the 14-18th now. Talked to the trucking company and they hadn't assigned it to a driver yet, but said that would be done "by tomorrow". I'm just telling myself Monday to stay sane.
3-4 weeks is a safe bet, it seems. The longest wait for me has been getting the vehicle dispatched to a carrier from the final rail destination. Won't be much longer, but my delivery date on the website changed from the 14th to the 18th now. Blend date was originally 6/23 and it was built 6/25.
The dealer was able to give me the railcar number.
From there, I called the CSX automated phone system: 1 (800) 235-2352
Then press 1 for "Location".
Then enter in your rail car letters by first pressing the key the letter is on, then the "digit" of your letter. For example, if your railcar is...
I don't know the answer, though I suspect it could be any combination of high center of gravity and rollover risk and roof bracket/roof attachment point stress for MIC roof materials. I am also hoping for a backbone system from Rhino, just to reduce the possibility of damaging the roof over time.
@Monsterdun It must be a different train, then. My information came directly from the rail carrier, and information on that train car is "no longer available". I don't think the Ford system is delayed like that, based on the timestamps when my dealer sent me a screen shot last week.
At least...
I don't think they'll know or be talking about their specific plans until they take a look. They haven't gotten their hands on one yet, from what it sounds like. That'll change this week.
Rhino Rack does indeed have plans, and they're getting to work on it in the next few days.
