Portal hubs seems like pushing the rules a bit. They are pretty open but you are adding more gear where the factory did not have it. Always was under the impression you can add heavier duty axles and new suspension but cannot change things from the factory configuration.
Like the idea of the long travel suspension, You telling me this is the best way they could design the fenders? Plastic lips upon plastic fenders. They could not just widen the fenders like the Raptor? I agree to still have a little plastic removable fender flare but this is just stupid...
I bet you are getting torque steer. I wish I could justify the purchase of a 392 right now. I am sure in 10 years or so that is going to be a classic. Soon most SUVs and trucks will be electric which in most ways is better than ICE but the nostalgia of a solid axle V8 for the sound and...
I would do the control arms for sure. The stock JLU sits around 5.5 deg caster. With the stock lift it runs to a bit less causing the issue. I set mine to 6.5 and with the 2Dr lifted it tracks way better. Here maybe an issue is your pinion angle though. My JLR is not AWD. Front does not...
I am sure you know this but you need to put extensions on the bumpers that brace you spare tire. Those should contact the spare and brace it against vibration and shock damage.
Shimmy is usually bad balanced or worn tires. I have a 3.5" lift and 37s with the adjustable control arms all around ( Metal Cloak). I set my caster to 6.5 degrees and added the fox steering 2.0 TS stabilizer and the thing rides and tracks great for a 2Dr on 37s. As you said the caster and...
His gearing is way to high for 40s as well. At best he is at 94.75:1 with the manual. You really want close to 100:1 with 37s and a manual but 40s I would want even lower for slick rock. Autos are more forgiving do to allowing slip through hydraulic action.
I think the steering issue has two parts to it to actually fix the issue. One is the rods and rack is undersized and two the distance between the knuckle and rod end attachment is to short. Basically like trying to loosen a huge bolt with a short wrench. Being that short might allow a better...
Sweet Video for sure! This video really shows why I prefer the Solid axle for a trail rig. I am not as good of a driver as Kevin and do not have a Britney to spot me but the Axle is just planted better and more forgiving. I have said this before in my wheeling days I have seen so many IFS...
yeah, there is a reason why the side impacts on Wrangler and Bronco is usually really good while the frontal is not as good. They crash a sled into the side which is more accurate to an actual crash as you said weight and mass. Small light cars do great in tests but not so good on the road...
it is simple physics and not absorption. It is the taper to the front and the solid axle. The cabin intrusion was good and that is why it still passed. Off roading it is a benefit to have the taper. In the wrong situations all vehicles will roll.
I do not understand how this stuff gets through. Someone had to put that on the Bronco and then declare "not my job" at the factory. Maybe they are afraid to say something? That is an obvious issue. If snow gets through then so will rain and sand.
I can definitely see this for any early model for sure. Put yourself as a used car buyer with all the early issues you would be crazy to buy an early model. Want to have one now, pay a premium and deal with the issues is totally understandable but I would not expect it to keep value. If I...
