I guarantee there are people that don't know it exist and want the highest mpg possible. Just like there are people who don't know how many cylinders are in their engine or if it's fwd/rwd, etc.

I'd summarize it by saying badlands' major improvement is the stronger front diff. If you think you're going to be climbing things in 4wd (and want a locking front) then pay extra for the badlands.
