I was just speaking in jest, but it's scary how many organizations (corporations, government agencies, colleges, etc.) want to put AI into lots of things, with unlimited trust and basically no vetting. The hype is totally out of hand, along with the amount of trust people are willing to put...
Thanks for sharing your story. I've been planning to install both a VHF-UHF ham radio and a GMRS radio in my Bronco. I appreciate the heads-up on interference problems, and solutions that should have worked but didn't. We'll have to see if the metal Armadillo top makes a difference in my case...
My lamented longtime 4x4 truck I sold 2 years ago had manual windows, door locks, seats, transmission, and emergency brake. (y) I did appreciate the power steering and brakes, though.
With a supercharger station you can get an 80% charge in 30 minutes or so. That can be combined with a meal or at least a bathroom break.
Last time we replaced a vehicle, I decided (wife concurred) that we wouldn't go for a BEV unless we had a home charging station. At that point (2.5 years...
Good point - I'd forgotten about that. However, there still has been good growth year-to-year this decade. At some future point I expect the growth to flatten out unless the tech improves a lot.
I was looking into BEVs last night out of curiosity, as a hypothetical option if something happened...
EV sales in the U.S. reached a new record in Q3 of 2025. Every calendar year has seen a sizable increase in sales from the preceding year: CarEdge.
There is still loads of potential for more people to buy BEVs for commuter use and urban/suburban. Even given the current state of the...
Now that's really alarming!
Want to know the reason why? It brings back a memory as a 7- or 8-year-old getting a ride in the neighbor's station wagon one time. They had 5 kids IIRC. I was in the passenger seat on the left side. There was a bit of a smell in the car, and I decided to look in...
One of my points was that Ford had Courier market share to protect even back then, but they still had the half-cab Bronco.
In any case, number of models is only a crude measure of popularity. Mini-pickups were extremely popular at the time and I was there to see that. A better measure would...
Mini-pickups were very popular in the 1970s. Toyotas were most common, but there were a lot of Datsuns (Nissan), Mazdas, etc. Ford had the Courier (rebadged Mazda) and GM had the LUV (rebadged Isuzu).
A two-door Bronco pickup on the 2-door wheelbase wouldn't be a direct competitor. OTOH, that would be a really small market, albeit an incredibly enthusiastic one.
They were on dealer lots in Fall 1982 as 1983 models. I test drove one as part of my search for my first 4x4. I ended up ordering a Chevy S-10 instead for the extended cab, which I received in April 1983.
