I'm with you here. I think after the problem was found and corrected, heads with bad valves were still being used thus giving us the crap shoot we have today of who will or will not fail. I think Ford is probably struggling with that too...how many total engines are effected?
In the end ...

Ok, maybe I read a previous post about Lima being shutdown for a few weeks wrong...I thought there were 2-3 weeks where no engines were built. If that's isn't right, I retract my question.
@Lucchese
Question on your graphs.
Maybe you addressed this earlier but because of the known gap of engine builds, should you adjust your formulation of Mean and Std Deviation as well as your charts to reflect the fact we will never see data points in those areas. Almost think you need to...
I've heard a similar noise since day one on this 2.7L and a 1.5L in an Escape I owned before the Bronco. I assumed it was related to the engine metering fuel though both direct and port fuel injection causing a bit of an inconsistent sound and not really a misfire. Could be wrong but seems to...
Scary looking pattern. Almost looks like Round 1 was the initial bad batch before any problems were known. Plant shut down and they "fix" the issue.
Round 2 is a mix of good and bad parts testing new valves while still using the old ones (or using up heads with bad valves). This could...
I've had an occasional burning rubber smell I have yet to track down. I'm thinking it is the tires, which my BFGs on my F250 stink sometimes or near the rear exhaust. The smell is more apparent in the rear.
I agree, I think it's been addressed and a new model year brings a new engine part # and maybe a sense of security.
I guess my point was does Ford really know how many engines are out there with heads built with bad valves...I think they're still working that out. But no doubt they've changed...
This tells me pre-valve issue being resolved, they threw whatever in it because they didnt know enough. Which goes back to my point earlier...heads with bad valves could have been installed on engines of various build dates over 3-4 months, even if the valve issue was resolved in the summer or...
I woke up at 3:00am and had a thought, and excuse me if it has been discussed already. While we've all been patiently waiting for the next engine build date to pop up as "suspect", could we and are we really waiting for a cylinder head build date to pop up? Yes, we can track engine build date...
I post this in hopes to make others feel better...
July 30th engine build and crossed 5,000 miles.
I still believe there is a larger issue with some engines and I hope mine isn't one, but I'm still trucking.
