The mechanic is trying to tell you guys that the gears act like a pump and blow oil at the rear vent hole. If you have two open holes you can effectively pump out the fluid faster. You want to overdrive the front, you probably will have to go to some odd rear axle to ratio out. You are looking at 4.27, 4.46, 4.71, 4.88 in the front. Might get stuck paying some money for custom rear gears. Odds are the transfer case becoming a wear item.

Need to verify nothing internally in the portal was damaged. Shock loads like this can easily deform bearings sitting in aluminum. Since you didn't test anything I would expect you to want and see critical failures. Especially on rigs that are testing the limits.
