  1. Toyota Tacoma production moving to Mexico, from the US

Don't get carried away about Tahara built 4Runners. They have the same frame rust as Tacomas and Tundras. Google it for the images and you will see. Horrible frame rust same as Tacoma and Tundra.
  2. Levine: White top not an option. We are listening (UPDATE)

If I buy a Bronco I certainly want a painted white hardtop available no matter my body color choice. Not MIC white plastic hardtop, but the nice thick fiberglass top (which I think the body-color painted hardtop is). If I were to buy a used Bronco say four years from now I would pay a premium...
  3. Towed a 3500 lb Airstream behind a Wrangler with no problems.

Thanks, that's good info about towing at 3500lb capacity. I saw this video of a ClassII hitch install on a Wrangler The crossmember on the Jeep looks to be MUCH stouter than what the Bronco has so maybe it can deal with more tongue weight. I can't travel with something like that Airstream...
  4. Could I tow this?

3000lbs dry seems good. 90" wide you may need addon tow mirrors, 320lbs dry tongue weight may be too much for the ClassII hitch (don't have the tongue weight specs yet from Ford), wet tongue weight will probably be close to 400lbs. 1) and 2), with the factory ClassII hitch a WDH may not be a...
  5. Question for the skilled rock crawler/overlander

"The Road to Oxiana" is a good read that provides history to the current state of the Middle East. Another good read is "Kim" by Rudyard Kipling. https://www.gutenberg.org/files/2226/2226-h/2226-h.htm Richard Burton was a prolific author, very good reads. http://www.burtoniana.org/books/
  6. Question for the skilled rock crawler/overlander

A good travelogue is from 1937 "The Road to Oxiana" Even mentions Ford vehicles a few times. http://gutenberg.net.au/ebooks14/1403301h.html For the thread topic I could deal with a base 4-dr non-squatch offroading, been to many awesome places without lockers just open diffs with 4LO and a pair...
  7. FB member Q&A

Ford has the basic platform to top any other SUV in every category at a reasonable cost, but they have to check off that last box - tow capacity. A base 4Runner vs a base Bronco the 4Runner has more stock ground clearance, but that's about it for offroad advantages. A good thing about the...
  8. FB member Q&A

Yep, checking off that last box - 5000lbs tow capacity - should be done. Seems to me that if Ford wants to really rub the Wrangler's nose in the dirt they should offer 5000lb tow capacity. Just plain goofy to trot out a 310HP/400TQ turbo engine then limit the platform to 3500lb tow capacity.
  9. FB member Q&A

Big deal is the 2.7l twin turbo can probably get twice the fuel mileage and twice the engine power at high altitude compared to the 4Runner. I tow at 5700 ft minimum most of the time. Twin turbo does well at altitude, so that is why I'm interested about a 4WD SUV that can do it all including...
  10. FB member Q&A

Bronco 4-dr is absolutely a great tow platform properly equipped. All this garbage about "get the right vehicle for the job" is just that, garbage. Bronco should be able to match my 2008 4runner 4wd that has 280HP/315TQ. 4Runner can tow 7000lbs, easily handles 4000lbs, offroads as good as a...
  11. FB member Q&A

Re-visiting this thread after a brief excursion last night this caught my eye. That's a childish attitude, sorry, but it's childish. Towing 4000lbs offroad as I pictured above should be done easily by the Bronco. You have the great proven 2.7l TT as a tow engine, you have a fully-boxed Ranger...
  12. FB member Q&A

I tow this trailer offroad with an '08 4Runner getting through washouts as pictured. Trailer is 3000lbs dry, 4000lbs loaded for offgrid for a week. All of the comforts of home for a week as a basecamp, then we go offroading and exploring. Bronco should be able to handle that same trailer to the...
  13. Replacing the class II hitch

No, a frame-mounted hitch where the towhooks are would clear the muffler. A problem with aftermarket frame-mount would be integrating the factory 4/7 pin in. Of course the factory ClassII would be removed and only the 4/7 pin retained. Which is why people want a factory frame-mount hitch that...
  14. Replacing the class II hitch

Yep, that's the "naked" pic, shows the ClassII 4-bolt on the rearmost crossmember. Shows the rear suspension, shows the towhooks bolted to the framerails where a ClassIII hitch can be bolted, shows the factory 4/7 pin. That setup can be modified to 5000lbs, but those skinny rear coils will need...
  15. Replacing the class II hitch

Correct, Bronco has a 2" receiver but it doesn't have ClassIII tow capacity. I saw some pics from the Buena Vista, CO event and it is 4 bolts on the center of the rearmost frame CROSSMEMBER...
  16. Sub 2k lb camp trailer to tow with Bronco?

If you're targeting a hardside with separate bed and dinette you'll be close to 3k lbs dry. There's just no way around it. So, loaded, you're close to the Bronco 3500lb tow capacity, tongue weight, and the Bronco GCWR/GVWR. There's plenty of lighter trailers that the Bronco ClassII hitch can...
  17. What would be a realistic towing capacity?

Well said again. Ford should be able to engineer a tow package that can offroad that teeny 19' trailer.
  18. What would be a realistic towing capacity?

Well said. This is what I tow with a V8 4Runner 3000lbs dry, 4000lbs+ loaded for offroad. Gets to some nice places with the comforts of home. Bronco 4-dr should be able to easily, EASILY tow that to the same places as a 2008 4.7l 4Runner.
  19. On the way to Colorado to see the 2021 Bronco!

Astro Tiger Provan poptop conversions are sweet. https://cosprings.craigslist.org/rvs/d/colorado-springs-1990-chevy-astro-tiger/7190782295.html https://denver.craigslist.org/rvs/d/aurora-1987-tiger-all-original/7186494438.html...
  20. What Tow Rating do Want/Need?

Maybe Ford will get that embarrassed feeling. Just goofy to trot out proven tow engines on a proven tow frame then limit it to 3500lbs.
