Correct. Last I was told was that "the ink was drying" on the contract 3 weeks ago or so. I'm a bit surprised no specifics have been leaked out. Webasto has lost the contract for the MOD tops.
The few MIC units used for pre-production testing were almost exclusively hand built in Germany at Webasto HQ. The COVID-induced materials shortage kept the brand new Plymouth factory from putting out any appreciable amount of tops prior to production as they weren't able to get the proper...
Answering a big question that a lot of you are asking- Scheduled builds have not been impacted by top issues (for better or worse). If you have a build week, or even better a specific date, your rig will be built as ordered. Check your MIC top closely when you take delivery and make sure your...
There isn't a single dealer in the world who has received a Bronco stock unit for retail sale.
While this will likely change soon as we "standby" stock orders going in for September production (4 door soft tops to be built if MAP runs out of "buildable" units), we aren't there yet.
Exactly. I have a Bachelors Degree in Communications and work as the Director of Communications for a civil rights nonprofit as my day job, so I'm painfully aware of the canyon between "what you know" and "what you can say." 🍻
Work on an OEM soft top is done but from what I can tell there is a legal matter keeping it from being available as the primary 2-door roof from the factory. That's all I can say about that.
I know Mike catches a lot of flack around here but I can attest to the fact that he is a solid dude. Any...
In my unsolicited opinion, this would be the best course of action:
"We're sorry to share with you that the Molded-in-Color hard tops arriving at our production facility from a supplier have failed to meet the standards we have for a product as exciting as Bronco. Going forward, all Bronco...
I have no reliable info on what the split will be coming out of Plymouth on any given day. The issues are varied as well, with both human input and robotic problems to be blamed.
Sorry if I missed your message, my inbox has been a bit of a shitshow lately. I'm trying to help as many as...
Enough about bad roofs, late scheduling, and multi-week gate holds to check the roof panels, okay? The fine men and women of MAP are ramping up at an exciting pace to get as many of your builds out the door as possible.
The current pace of production is seeing nearly 900 units daily roll off of...
I really can't say one way or another. They're obviously aware of the issue, but they're still cranking out Broncos with MIC tops. I don't have any specific information on a possible remedy beyond dealers being asked to document issues.
Have to assume we'll see a Customer Satisfaction Campaign...
They'll get it sorted, but I assume that means a total replacement roof for all these early MIC builds down the road. Those raw edges are going to be a mess once we get into cold weather season here. We have super rainy Octobers and Novembers with lots of freezing and thawing.
Mine was delivered 3 weeks ago tomorrow with no visible problems. Even the "raw" (non-rolled) edges were uniform in color and texture and the headliner fit was great.
As of today, we have the headliner separating from the roof panels in two spots, raw edges fading to light gray / white with...
A bit more info: Issues with thickness uniformity of the 3 layers is what's behind the lamination issues (and these unsightly "thin" spots). There isn't an easy fix at this point.
Watch this space.
The first of many we'll see of these. It's becoming apparent that many tops were delivered that had their outer laminate layer cast too thin. Commodity intake procedures weren't abole to tell because they looked fine. This - along with other laminating issues - are what spurred the additional...
