I have the steps. They are awesome! There is a OBD splitter that Amp sells...kinda pricey. On Amazon the OBD splitters are $10 or less. I have only had to unplug the steps once to use the super chips flashcal so I didn't go with the splitter. You can keep the steps down by stepping in them...

I think that is an install issue. Maybe needs some adjustments? If that step is bent or tweaked, I would request a new one from amp research. I installed my own and the gap is very small is the same for the length of the step. I don't think I would want the gap any smaller....in case there...
