I hit a rock with my 1/4ā 5052 aluminum engine skid which was backed up by steel brackets and it was covered in 3/8ā by UMHW. I drove home. The edge of the UHMW was chipped slightly, a few gouges and the edge of the aluminum plate was deformed. A skid that didnāt have the properties of...
IMHO- Skids should come before a lift. If you have a lift kit, you still have vulnerable parts, just a couple inches higher. Picking and choosing what might be damaged is a guessing game. I am a big believer in doing it once. FInd a complete skid system and do it before you go. Steel...
Most of the aluminum skids are from 5052, and because aluminum weighs so much less than steel it is possible to go to 1/4" plate for skids. Its not all about tensile strength when it comes to skids.
Tint mostly because the Line-X shop does it and I have been just putting it off. I needed to clean up the paint on my pinch welds, I had a bunch of aftermarket sliders on and off the vehicle about 20 times and due to my own fault damaged the paint. I also left the sliders bare metal for way...
None better in my opinion!!! UMHW while hard stomach $$ is a great addition. I donāt know of a stronger or better coverage solution out there.
No bolt heads anywhere that would get dragged on rocks. No paint/scratch worries like steel.
price is a consideration and I get it⦠but I think...
Anybody have these? will they fit over the Badlands mounts which have the factory skids?

ARB skids are a great value for aluminum. I considered them, but went with Next Venture Motorsports as they are 1/4" aluminum with UHMW as an option.
I would never go with steel as I can't stand chasing the rust from the scratches..
We live a wild and crazy world where skid plates are getting polishedā¦. To each his own, but to me that is like putting armorall/tire wet on your tires before you go rock crawling.
As with any coating when it get compromised by scratches (think skid plates) coatings fail- Here is what most of the marine industry uses https://sharkhidestore.com/ or https://www.nyalic.com/Aluminum-Boats_c_42.html Also as with all coatings, prep is key. You will need to remove all of the...
