  1. School me on skidplates

That guy is a tool. Did he drag his wife's 4Runner for 5 miles at 20mph.
  2. School me on skidplates

I hit a rock with my 1/4ā€ 5052 aluminum engine skid which was backed up by steel brackets and it was covered in 3/8ā€ by UMHW. I drove home. The edge of the UHMW was chipped slightly, a few gouges and the edge of the aluminum plate was deformed. A skid that didn’t have the properties of...
  3. School me on skidplates

IMHO- Skids should come before a lift. If you have a lift kit, you still have vulnerable parts, just a couple inches higher. Picking and choosing what might be damaged is a guessing game. I am a big believer in doing it once. FInd a complete skid system and do it before you go. Steel...
  4. School me on skidplates

Most of the aluminum skids are from 5052, and because aluminum weighs so much less than steel it is possible to go to 1/4" plate for skids. Its not all about tensile strength when it comes to skids.
  5. Upgrading to HOSS 3.0 steering worth it?

So my early 2021 Badlands and First Edition have 2.0 racks?
  6. Front window tint and Line-Xed the pinch welds

Tint mostly because the Line-X shop does it and I have been just putting it off. I needed to clean up the paint on my pinch welds, I had a bunch of aftermarket sliders on and off the vehicle about 20 times and due to my own fault damaged the paint. I also left the sliders bare metal for way...
  7. Upgrading to HOSS 3.0 steering worth it?

What is 1.0 vs 2.0 steering rack? I get the 3.0, but don’t understand the difference between 1&2
  8. Any reason to stick with stealership for oil changes?

  9. Rancho rear control arm "glide plates" skidplates

Mine are ground up pretty good so far. Its one of the first things that get hit in the rocks.
  10. Ford Factory Fuel Tank Skid Plate

None better in my opinion!!! UMHW while hard stomach $$ is a great addition. I don’t know of a stronger or better coverage solution out there. No bolt heads anywhere that would get dragged on rocks. No paint/scratch worries like steel. price is a consideration and I get it… but I think...
  11. Rancho rear control arm "glide plates" skidplates

Anybody have these? will they fit over the Badlands mounts which have the factory skids? https://www.gorancho.com/products/rancho-rockgear-rs62500-skid-plate
  12. Tested ARB skid plates šŸ˜‚

ARB skids are a great value for aluminum. I considered them, but went with Next Venture Motorsports as they are 1/4" aluminum with UHMW as an option. I would never go with steel as I can't stand chasing the rust from the scratches..
  13. Raw aluminum skid - coating?

We live a wild and crazy world where skid plates are getting polished…. To each his own, but to me that is like putting armorall/tire wet on your tires before you go rock crawling.
  14. Not Aux switches

There are pre ran wires independent of having aux switches. You might not have aux switches but you have these 5 wires.

  16. Raw aluminum skid - coating?

As with any coating when it get compromised by scratches (think skid plates) coatings fail- Here is what most of the marine industry uses https://sharkhidestore.com/ or https://www.nyalic.com/Aluminum-Boats_c_42.html Also as with all coatings, prep is key. You will need to remove all of the...
  17. Raw aluminum skid - coating?

OK- 5052 can sit in salt water… there is NOTHING to worry about on the underside of a Bronco
  18. Raw aluminum skid - coating?

5052 is marine grade aluminum and absolutely fine being e posed fo any air. It will just oxidize.
  19. Bronco Rear Shock Mount - AKA Rock Catcher

I see a bunch of grinding/cutting/welding in your future….. looks like the control arm bracket and the coilover brackets are trashed
