They do go away if you are not actively using/ adding to them, but I never saw anything to say that Ford was completely doing away with them. With that said, I just had my oil changed and I used up the last of my points, so there goes my free oil changes and tire rotations.
3k on synthetic or even a blend is most likely overkill. But if it helps you sleep at night - go for it.

Take the body off the frame, disassemble the whole thing and get busy powder coating and zinc coating. When that's all done reassemble. Voila, ready for the salty hell.
