The only reason to get the 2.3L is if you want a manual trans and an 8-track.
It's a Fotd feature. Eventually they will all do it. Sometimes following the reset method works, sometimes taking the door apart and looking for corroded terminals works, or bring it to the dealer and they will tell you they have never seen this problem before.
No it isn't.
Anyone that says the 2.3L has more than enough power must be driving a Subaru. A 4dr with the 2.3L is a slug at highway speeds, and not much fun at speeds below 55mph. The only reason to buy a 2.3L is to get the manual transmission. If you go with the automatic, get the 2.7L...
