A 2-door Samurai would be an interesting vehicle... even if supersized 20% from the originals... as they were so small.

The Suzuki Jimny basically is that. Not available in the US though.

This is really disappointing. I seriously had to think if Mitsubishi was part of the Hyundai/Kia family.
I can imagine how the Design Team meeting went:
"We can either go the Defender route - or the Palisade/Telluride route. Who's in favor of the Defender? (...crickets...) Who's in favor of the Palisade? (every hand goes up)"

It's a diesel, they make more tq than HP. A lot of non US markets moved to diesel for some reason. But not every market advertises and tricks people into thinking more HP mean more better. In the US, we have big roads, with high speeds and moreHP helps with that. In a lot of places, you can't go more than 55-60 mph, and most driving is actually done at 30-45mph max and crap roads. So top speed isn't really a factor there.

Exactly. In fact, I'm surprised this one isn't white, black, or some shade of gray. It looks like another jellybean SUV, with a nod to Hyundai.

I had a 1989 2-door Montero back in the day... in the form of a "Dodge Raider". Had two of them in fact (V6 stick & V6 auto). I parked last year next to it (saw it at an Ace HW). My 2-door Bronco looked massive next to it. I had that Montero for 17 years and loved it!

Its too bad that car companies always think bigger is better. This Mitsu is an example of just that!

I didn't appreciate the original Samurai when it was available here. Now I'd love to own one.

Unfortunately small cars are going extinct, with the amount of safety measures and comfort features, if u take any car that’s been continuously producing since the start of the century, I will be surprise to see if a single one is smaller than they did 20 years ago, regardless of sports car or 4x4s.

As a 6’5 dude, I do love the look and feel of smaller, nimbler vehicles, even tho I have to cramp myself in there, but they are going extinct…
