guess it's time to schedule my inspection
Update: After 13 days of my Bronco at the dealer, Ford approved a new transmission and transfer case and the dealer has ordered both.

I got the recall notice a few weeks ago for my 2021 Manual Bronco. The first year I had it, I had a leaking main seal or something, repaired under warrantee. Last week the update came that an inspection is to be done, if it fails, a new transmission and transfer case will be installed.

I've had a LOT of trouble with this Bronco. So much that Ford gave me a free Extended Service Plan warantee before my regular one ran out. I've had to use it a couple times too, but of course each time something breaks on a Ford, they look it up and say "oh, that part is not covered". They're not worth the paper they're written on....I've had Fords for 30 years and no part is EVER covered, mysteriously.

Which gives me pause when the dealer called and told me my transmission "checks out" and nothing needs to be done. Here is what the dealer work order says:

"COMPLETE RECALL 26S26
transfer case did not have a gap between transmission,
checked the torque on all bolts 22lb-ft none turned, passed
per fsa 26s26a" - no charge

I'm not sure why it would give you pause. Most vehicles likely won't be affected.
Unless the bolts are loose during the inspection, there is no repair necessary.

truck passed the inspection yesterday - I asked what they looked for and the tech said gaps on the mating surfaces and loose bolts. That part makes sense, but I do wonder is assuming no excessive wear on the splines a solid way to detect this, just by a visual inspection looking for gaps? I don't know all the details of the modes of failure but I sure would feel better if they actually physically looked at the splines.

Anyway I only have 1 recall left on the books lol

The only way damage would be done to the splines, is if there is a gap (loose bolt) which is why they use that to detect if it potentially has an issue.

Removing the transfer case on every one of them, especially if the bolts are tightened correctly already, would just be an unnecessary waste of money for them.

thx for confirming and being the voice of reason @Ducati1098 - if I'm being honest I knew that already but I was hoping for something more. My head has not forgotten the repair for the synchro grinding issue and my trans had to be pulled out after the repair as it was not properly reassembled the 1st time.

Wishful thinking on my part

I don’t expect to get a reliable answer from the service advisor on this, but maybe @Ducati1098 or others have an informed opinion:

Am I going to need to do any kind of break-in period for my new transmission and transfer case? How much is that about the engine vs the tranny on new Broncos?

The parts arrive this Friday and if I’m lucky I’ll get the Bronco back just in time for a road trip to Hilton Head, which is 1100 miles round trip. This will involve long periods of sustained driving at 75-80 mph. The original break-in guidance would put a cramp in my road trip driving habits.

No need to worry about any break in

Thanks.

It would be a shame if I had no chance of getting another nice road photo of my Bronco from a sheriff’s department.
