Windshield Film - ExoShield Ultra?

Looking to be proactive on the windshield. Has anyone used ExoShield Ultra and have real feedback. I see I missed a 20 percent off coupon that was valid yesterday, but just discovered the product today. If you did use it, did you go the DIY route (with tools) or had an installer put it on? How is the longevity? Does it scratch easily or change the clarity of the windshield? Does it add sun glare? Or is it the best product and everyone should have it?

Never installed it on my Bronco as it got a few chips on the glass before I got the chance. But I do have Exoshield on my wife’s Honda Accord and I’m sold on it. It’s taken some crazy hits and never broke the glass yet. I was driving it not long ago and swear a truck kicked up a bolt or something. I watched come at the window and I literally ducked. It took a chunk out of the film but never did a thing to the glass.

Hey! ExoShield here Happy to answer some of your technical questions, and hopefully some owners can jump in with their personal experiences as well!

For longevity, most drivers can expect around 2-3 years depending on mileage, driving conditions and how well the film is maintained. We’ve personally seen installations last 3+ years.

As for scratches, ULTRA has an abrasion-resistant hardcoat designed to handle normal driving and wiper use. It can still wear and scratch over time — especially if dirt, sand or debris gets trapped under the wipers — because ultimately it’s a sacrificial layer designed to take that wear instead of your glass. That said, we have a wiper care guide to help extend the lifetime of the film.

Clarity is a big one for us. When properly installed, ULTRA is optically clear and shouldn’t introduce glare or negatively impact visibility.

Is it bulletproof? Definitely not, and no windshield protection film is. But if you’re trying to proactively protect an expensive or damage-prone windshield, that’s exactly what ULTRA was designed for.

I have the Ultra & also have 70% tint on the inside of the windshield. I get an awful glare at night from oncoming cars. Maybe it's a combination of the 2 films, but it is pretty bad & not from dirty glass.

It has sustained many hits and still protects the windshield. It is like Cataracs that creeps up on your vision. Not as clear as it once was and is full of pits. At some point I probably should have it replaced.

I didn’t have a local shop that did Exo and had EXPEL Pro WPF installed instead. Has been a great product. No weird glare or reflections day and night. Has taken a couple offroad rock hit and no marks left. The other day found bird poop and after I cleaned it the acidity left a “stain” mark on the film. 30min in the sun and it was gone. Happy so far with this option.

120,000 miles is impressive! What you’re describing with the pitting and loss of clarity is exactly why we’re big believers in removable layers. Windshield protection takes the abuse so your glass doesn’t, but eventually that protection takes a beating too.

With a multi-layer system, when the outer layer gets worn or pitted, you can remove it and expose a fresh, clear layer underneath without starting over with a whole new install.

ExoShield for the win with my 21 Bronco. On my second Sheild as my first probably saved my face from glass shards. Hit by a golf ball size rock at 70 MPH in the corner of my windshield. Small glass shards on the dash, but it didn't make it thru thanks to the extra protection. I've installed both at home, and when you take your time and bribe a buddy to help with beer, it goes pretty easy.
