I'd put money down that your frame is bent, absolutely go through insurance. Did you get a police report? those help in a major way with insurance and getting what you need done faster.

As for concussions, they can still linger with no symptoms. More serious concussions can show little signs early on, even disappear completely only to return in a massive way. I got a concussion playing football in high school only I had no idea. I was walking down the hall then I woke up in the nurses office, I passed out mid step and fell on the person in front of me.

Yes a police report was filed and insurances are working things out right now. Should be hearing back in the next day about getting it in to be looked at.

My insurance agent was the one who strongly advised getting an attorney, as he had just gone through a similar situation with his wife.
We were both hit by uninsured drivers, so we were actually sueing our own insurance company.
So glad we took his advice.

Damn that sucks, when it happened to us our insurance paid our medical and then sued the uninsured person. I'm sure states have provisions in place to protect insurance companies from this situation.

Glad you both were okay..There are so many people looking down at their phones while driving now.
My wife got hit like that years ago while pregnant driving a Jeep Wrangler...She was fine, baby was fine...air bags never deployed. We drove the jeep for many more years. The suburban that hit her was dented in severely. It was a low speed hit but that back tire seems to provide some extra cushion on impact.

As others state - glad you & your wife are still here to report on the crash, but don't recall seeing if you too the wife into hospital for check? Even with a police report, having a Dr. assess you (both) is a must, in case future health issues surface. Trust me, our daughter had a similar rear-end impact years ago and she suffered mild whiplash. Later headaches set in and there was spine damage. Took a few years of treatment (PT), but luckily no surgery. All was covered by the driver at fault because we took her to ER and it was documented. Saved us from having to battle medical & insurance.

Almost six years ago my son got into an accident with his F150. It was an evening in late December, and it had just started to snow. As he was entering the intersection, a 16-year-old in a relatively new Jeep Wrangler made a left in front of him.

Fortunately, my son wasn't going fast, but with the last-minute turn and the slippery roads, he wasn't able to stop in time, and he hit the Jeep right near the A-pillar on the passenger side, where the hinges are for the front door. Visually, the damage on the Jeep looked relatively minor. It wasn't a high-speed crash.

This happened less than a half mile from out home and they pulled into a gas station on the corner. My son calls me and I head over there after I told him to immediately call the police. When I get there, the other kid's dad had already arrived. He immediately said to me that it was obvious that his son was at-fault and given that it looked like the damage on the F150 was limited to the bumper, headlight and possibly the tight front fender, could we settle this without calling the police.

I told him that it was too late as the police were already on their way.

The other kid was cited as being at-fault for not yielding the right of way.

My son drove the truck the half mile home, but the bumper was rubbing on the right front tire, so the insurance company sent a flat bed to take it to the body shop.

A couple days later the estimate comes in at over $6k. Apparently there was additional hidden damage including the radiator support.

I decided to call the other dad to let him know that instead of what we both thought was maybe a couple thousand in damage ended up being a lot more.

He then proceeded to tell me that the insurance company was considering totaling the Jeep. Apparently, there was frame damage where the hit occurred.
I don't have pictures of the Jeep, but these are pictures of our F150.

Thank you for the kind words. Getting hit while pregnant has to be scary though I'm glad everyine was fine!

And yes that spare tire did a number on the car behind me. You can see the imprint left on the hood.

We got hit so hard it pushed my Bronco about 10 feet into the car in front of us and also pushed that car into the car in front of them.

The Bronco looks like it held up nice however, I think there may be some frame damage. The tailgate does not close properly, and the inside cargo area is so messed up the trim panels won’t even fit.

Even though this group continues to wade through all the frustrating recalls and nuisance issues, one spot where ford seems to have done an excellent job is how well these trucks hold up during accidents and keeping people safe. Gotta tip your hat to the ford engineers where credit is due.

EDIT: would love to see more pics of the back of the bronco - the car is smushed and from the pic you posted I can't believe the bronco is not worse

Yep, uninsured driver wrecked my 23 4Runner TRD, injuries, sued my own insurance and won.

I'm sorry as well that you experienced this. I recently was run into in a similar fashion - stopped in traffic with a distracted driver hitting us. We were medically fine, but the Bronco not so much. He was driving a Silverado, and not like going too fast as we did not get pushed into anyone. Our damage was contained to the tailgate, I thought.

He hit the tire and the bumper. Glass in the hardtop (and the hardtop itself) not affected. However, it the tailgate was crushed in, but hey, new tailgate and bumper no big deal. But apparently it deflected the bumper enough to cause some frame issues and they are replacing the entire frame as well. Estimate is about $20K and they thankfully did not total it as I have a lot of add-ons.

I will be filing for a "diminished value" claim but I am out of my Bronco for about 2 months (if parts come in time). It didn't look like much damage, but that frame stuff is insidious. Glad to be getting it taken care of and have a new frame, but hate the loss of time from it.

It will be interesting. Apparently replacing the entire frame was better (and less expensive and shorter time) than some partial option that exists. IN addition to the frame the rear tailgate and steel bumper are getting replaced, but it was shockingly not much else They do have to re-mount my winch and my slider steps and re-install my onboard air in the bumper. It is being done at Caliber Collision and they have been great so far. As a '21 I was sure it would be totaled, but it has all the options and hi package items I wanted, so maybe that saved it.

Edit: I added some pics to show how little damage it appeared to be (tire crunched the gate, but the hinges were unaffected, and the glass and hardtop all still perfect). Apparently the way his bumper must have hit mine, or my hitch, just deformed the rear of the frame enough to cause the replacement. Drove perfectly fine and I was shocked when they put it up to laser it. Happy it is being repaired, but seems a bit wild that it's ending up with a new frame from that little bit. Go figure.

I got rear ended in January. Much slower collision, and I kept my foot mashed on the brake so did not get shoved into the cargo van in front of me.

Bumper cover, tailgate, tire carrier added up to almost $6k, and it took 4 months just to get the tailgate.

Your Bronco is in much worse shape than mine. Just... setting expectations here.

The main thing is everyone being okay (relatively). It doesn’t look like the damage was too bad until you realize the car slid under your Bronco. I had something like that happen and they were like its just a crack in the bumper. They pushed the differential and transmission up by about 3 inches, bent and punctured the exhaust and the axel was move as well.
