What’s the purpose of using aux switches for a com or compressor?

the com unit already has a power switch and you can install it to bring fused power to it from battery, acc switch or full ignition. Seems unnecessary to also put the aux switch in the mix. Same for ARB compressor and dash cam.

I like to so that I can ensure that those devices are definitely off when I turn the vehicle off and park it (and for high amp things like a compressor, to make it less likely I will forget to turn the engine on to run it). The AUX switches make that simple. You can wire some low amp things to a fuse that is ignition powered, but you may or may not choose a circuit that can handle the load. And something high amp like a compressor can't be just hooked up to an existing circuit.

Sure, there are other ways to do that than AUX switches.. but they're a ready made solution.

Here was my solution. Garmin power switch. I also have the XBB relay which can be triggered by a bunch of OBD2 triggers like high beams or reverse lights.

Wow, 3 year old thread revived! I haven't seen that XBB relay, I'll for sure keep that in mind.

For switches, I started with a AuxBeam setup with two switch panels. Ended up returning it before I installed it, didn't have what I wanted. Ended up buying two Scosche M8rix controllers, 8 circuits each, solid state fusing and current monitoring. These were discontinued, bought two since they were $240 each on clearance in July of 2024. My original plan was to use both and link them together, have one screen in the front, one in the cargo. The claim of linking was BS since the cable to link them doesn't exist, so now one unit is a spare sitting in the garage. So far, the M8RIX has worked great with the timers and all the controls it offers. It's wired to wake up with ignition on, then controls all the power from my battery bank. Timers are set to keep the fridge and starlink powered for 12hours after ignition off, but only keeps them on if they were on when the ignition is turned off. Plus, since the outputs are PWM, I can dim my LED chase lights to 10% since 100% is blinding.

My diagram is a little out of date. The inverter and Redarc need some rewiring, they didn't behave as I expected so this needs to change.
