2023 Everglades Bronco DOA -- disconnected ground wire from battery and saw smoke from fuse box

While I was working on the 93 Bronco, I heard horns going off. When I check up on them, the are coming from the 2023 Bronco. While disconnrcting the ground wire from the battery, I started to see smoke coming from the fuse box. It is DOA now. What did it fry? The truck is only 5 months out of warrenty. Do you think Ford will be any help?

You were working on another vehicle and the alarm started to go off on your '23 Bronco, so to stop the alarm on the '23 you disconnected the negative lead on the battery rather than to use the Key Fob to reset the alarm?

It sounds like the alarm going off was a sign that something was happening, provided you were not working on the '23.

Have you:
Checked all connections to the fuse box?
Checked all fuses?
Checked accessible portions of the wiring harness for signs of rodent damage, or based upon the most recent recall, chafing causing damage to the wiring harness?
Inspected the fuse box for signs of damaged components, wires, etc.?

It was no alarm the horns when off full blast till I pulled the ground. Smoke was coming out of the fuse box. Yes I did check all the fuses but not sure how to test the square ones.

I'd suspect grounding problems, that's why I asked what changes you've made.

Seeing as a recall just came out for wiring potential fires, your might get taken care of by the recall.
Recalls go above warranty periods so that will not be an issue if it’s whatever this recall is all about.

Not sure how to test the square ones.

Both J Case and M Case fuses "often" (but not always) have a clear cover so you can see if they are blown, but in my experience it's best to remove them one at a time and check with a meter. While removing them you can also see if any have loose terminals, inspect the fuse block & terminals for signs of over heating or arching.

Remove, test, and replace one at a time. It never hurts to take a few pictures of the fuse locations prior to starting. I'd also recommend having the factory schematic (fuse locations) with you and verifying the that the proper fuse capacities are in the proper locations.

As Calvin said, I'd suspect a grounding issue or insulation issues allowing intermittent shorting. There have been reported issued with fuse blocks not being tightened, thus providing intermittent ground.
