Outer Banks switching from 18" to 17" rims and tires

I have a 2024 Outer Banks with e 225/70/18 tires and stock rims. I'm thinking about buying Sasquatch 17" rims and putting 315/7/17 tires on them. Besides the obvious of changing the tire diameter with Forescan what else should I plan on. Will the offset of the wider tire be OK using real Ford rims? What will I have to do with the rear brake light with the 2" larger diameter spare wheel. Will I need some sort of extension for the rear camera. Anything else before I start this project?

Take off the crash bars, everythign else works out fine. Those are just two bolts each and pop right off. And you already know about Forscan and the calibration for the speedometer.

The CHMSL will rest right on top of the spare, but it still fits ok. Camera stub tube still works fine.

Fine? You mean works ok. As long as you aren't off roading the truck and getting actual articulation going. Lots of missing fender flares and inner fender liners with this change and no lift. But it does work, as you say.

As far as the other changes, just need to change the tire diameter in forscan to get the mph correct. The offset would truly depend on which Ford rim you use.

I chose the gentler route on my 2021 non-Sasquatch OBX. I installed Badlands take-offs 17x8 wheels with 285/70R17 tires (33's). They are about .8" taller, up to 2" wider and look fuller in the wheel well. They have been great on the beach. They reduced overall MPG from 20 to 18. They require no modification, no recalibration . . . The 1 mph speedo change isn't worth recalibration. I have the 4.27 axles. See photo at 88,000 miles.

Remember that if you add 35" tires to an OBX 3.73 drivetrain, you are adding stress. Consider using 11.5 in wide tires instead of 12.5 wide and stay with C rated. Some also are using 34's for a moderate choice. You can put 33's or 34's on the Sasquatch rims, that's my next upgrade.

I’m in a similar situation. I’m looking to upgrade my stock 2025 non-Sasquatch OBX. I’m going with 17” wheels and have read dozens of articles about what tires and wheel offset works but can’t find a definitive answer. Same as the OP is looking for.

What’s the biggest tire and correct offset on a 17” wheel that will fit without a lift, or maybe just a 1” leveling lift, AND not rub when off-roading? I thought I read 285/75/17, with the right offset that I don’t know, will have full articulation if the crash bars are removed. I’m headed to Moab next month so I need a definitive answer soon.

a 4” lift makes it perfect…….i would do it no other way.

The OBX 18 black with machine face are very nice wheels but tires way too small they look great with 275/70/18 or 285 with zero fittment issues with perfect amount of poke that still doesnt splatter sides with rocks etc thanks to the 55 offset.

Here’s my OBX with Badlands rims and 295/70/17’s. Removed crash bars, but that’s it . No issues, but I’m 90% sand when off road. I’d like to try 305/75/17 but not sure if that would work

I have 285/70/17's on my OBX with 17x9" rims with a 20mm offset. Perfect poke for me and looks great.

I changed my stock 18" OBX wheels to 17x8.5"(+25mm offset) wheels and 35x11.5" Toyo AT3s. I changed the shocks to Bilstein 5100's with 2.4" lift in front and 1.75" and loved the result. I also changed to Zone control arms. The poke is perfect for me.
