I know a good number of people have sanded down and painted their textured Base/Black Diamond grills and Sasquatch flares. At least one person has painted over their textured grill with good results. I am considering painting a textured grill I picked up second hand and Sasquatch flares the body color, but leaving it with a textured finish. Rather than sand it smooth first and then cleaning, applying an adhesion promoter, high fill primer, and then base and clear coat, I am considering using a red scotch bride to scuff it up, but preserve the texture and then clean, apply the adhesion promoter, primer and then base and clear coat. Why do this rather than sand it smooth first? I am thinking it would be easier to touch up rock chips and scratches, especially on the flares rather than periodically repaint the flares or use a PPF. Has anyone tried painting over their textured finishes? Thoughts on the results? Thank you.
