Thinking about car camping with the TrailDeck, what is the best mattress or sleep setup for it?

We have been spending a lot of time looking at how everyone utilizes the rear cargo space for overlanding, and one topic that keeps coming up in our design meetings is sleep setups. Since the TrailDeck creates a flat, solid rolling platform, we are considering developing a custom sleep system or mattress specifically designed to work with it for quick car camping.

Instead of just choosing one material from the start, we want to hear directly from the community about what actually works best on the trail.

What we are looking to find out
  • Current setups: Do you currently sleep inside your Bronco, and if so, what kind of mattress setup are you using right now?
  • The ideal material: If you could have a custom sleep system built for the TrailDeck, what type would you prefer? Are you a fan of ultra compact inflatable air mattresses, heavy duty self inflating foam pads, or thick foldable memory foam blocks?
  • The main pain points: What is the biggest issue you face when trying to sleep in a 4 Door Bronco regarding leveling, padding, or storage space that a new design needs to fix?
We want to make sure we are building gear that solves real problems on the trail rather than just adding clutter to your trunk. Let us know your thoughts, your preferred sleep gear, or any ideas you have on how to make a Bronco sleep setup perfect.

Hest, if they have stuff that will fit. We have their complete setup in our alu-cab tent and absolutely love it. Not cheap.

I did some research a while back on this and decided to go the tent route instead. But Deep Sleep or Luno seem to be several of the top options for Bronco specific interior mattresses. Luno more expensive but have an air/foam combo and head support system that attaches to your driver and passenger headrest. Deep Sleep you have shove something under the head to support it.

I’ve got 163 nights sleeping in my Bronco on a DeepSleep Solo. You don’t NEED something underneath the top most portion of it. Your head just doesn’t weigh enough for it to push it down enough to be uncomfortable - I can’t even tell

If it really bothered you, you could leave the headrest un-collapsed and that would give some extra support, but I don’t, because I use that lower area for storage

Also, DeepSleep is an air-foam mattress. It is incredibly comfortable

I’d HIGHLY recommend a DeepSleep if you’re looking for a form-cut mattress

I don’t see a Bronco mattress from Luno. I bet you get more mattress with DeepSleep because of that
