And to be honest, I find it difficult to find fault with the dealers for it. I'd like to, but I don't feel that's fair. How many vehicles actually OFFER a manual? Mustangs and Broncos from Ford? And most of those are autos, like everything else. If Ford ain't selling them, people ain't bringing em in to service. I can't lie, part of why I bought my Bronco when I did was FOMO. How much longer until there aren't any 2 door, manual vehicles being made? I bought it while I could.
Yeah I mean it is what it is. Better they replace it than screw it up while trying to rebuild it 🤷‍♂️

This is exactly what I was talking about in my previous post. As someone who has had a lot of these apart, I would be very surprised if there is actual scoring or any abnormal damage. Not saying it’s impossible. Just unlikely. They use this as a way of simply getting a new unit so they don’t have to rebuild it.

Regardless, it works out in your benefit because now you don’t need to worry about them doing it incorrectly.
isn't the dealers saying this stuff misleading Ford though, possibly leading them to change something and making it worse? Do dealers send the tranny's back to Ford for further investigation at all?

Yeah it’s misleading as far as what they find, but Ford wouldn’t change something without a lot of evidence. And yes the transmissions go back to Ford, but I’m not sure how much investigation really happens unless it’s the same specific claimed cause on multiple different transmission making them suspect an actual common issue.

Do you think by now all manual transmissions have the latest parts and no noise? Meaning the replacement trans won't still have the issue?

I would assume so, but there's no way to tell for sure.
Other than taking it apart to look obviously

A bit of a late update but my Bronco was returned to me on Jan 22. Took exactly 6 weeks for drop off to pick up. The transmission was entirely replaced. It’s only been a week but truck seems good. Frigid cold here in Chicago and no grinding sound. Especially quiet once the car is fully warmed up.

It will be going back tomorrow but that’s to replace the hard top. Yes I was also blessed with a cracking MIC hard top lol! Apparently they have to transfer the glass from the old top to the new top too. But this is getting off topic.

Hopefully my MT issues are now past.

What dealer did you bring yours to? I’ve been going to Roesch Ford in Elmhurst and think I need a new one.

I have a ‘23 MT. 2 years ago I asked about the noise I was hearing. They told me it was nothing - all MTs make a grinding noise. I had been to this forum and am in the tracker spreadsheet, so I knew the issues others were having. But I let it go and just paid attention to whether it was getting worse and figured I’d bring it up later.

Fast forward to this year, In January I brought the vehicle in for oil service. They did that and and ordered parts for the rear shocks recall, as well as a new drivers seat cover which was cracking on the side for no reason. Said it would be a week for the parts. They also said the tech heard a noise in the transmission he wanted to check out next time I’m in. I did not tell him I knew what he was talking about, but was just glad the knowledge was finally filtering down to the dealers and they were seemingly being proactive about it.

The “one week” turned into two months before they had the parts for the seat and shocks. In the meantime my oil change warning came on. They either forgot to reset it or never changed the oil like it says on my invoice. My App service history just says regular maintenance, not oil change.

Dropped vehicle off last Friday morning. Did not hear back. Called, L/M. They called me the next day saying they're still working on the shocks and seat cover, should be finished by Tues. or Wed, which seemed crazy to me.

On Monday they called saying the shocks and seat were done, and the technician was looking at the transmission. My guy D said he’d call me back to let me know what they find, if it needs work, or if they need a new transmission. And if they have to order parts, they’ll get my car back to me until they have everything.

They did not call me back. On Wednesday I called. Was told D was “busy with another customer” and they he would call me right back. He didn’t. Thursday (yesterday) early afternoon I called. Again was told D was busy with another customer and would call me back. Later, just after 5:00, I called and yep, was told D was busy with another customer but would call me right back. (Leaving out that my call was “disconnected” twice during that attempt)

The next morning (today) I went to the dealer. I asked for D and they told me he wasn’t going to be in until next Wednesday. I said I need my car, which I can see in the back shop raised up. They said D’s been out of the country ALL WEEK. I asked what’s going on, that I haven’t heard from anybody about this and needed my vehicle. This guy looks up my file and says they replaced my transmission, a few other things, and are waiting on a new drive shaft. Should be ready later today.

He apologized for the poor communication. Sounds like an unfortunate family emergency for D, but “busy with another customer” ?! Seriously Roesch Ford?

Am I supposed to feel grateful that I’m getting a new transmission without asking for or authorizing it? All I was told was that they were investigating a noise in the transmission, and then was lied to instead of telling me what they were doing, throwing poor D under the bus in the process.

If I get my vehicle back today it will be 8 days. Feels like a long time, but it’s not 6 weeks like you endured.

I took mine to Bob Rorhman Ford in Schaumburg. Mine probably took so long in part due to it being over Christmas and New Years. Lots of non-working days.

I’m kind of surprised they HAD another transmission for you in that short of a time AND had it replaced. Maybe they had one ready.

Thanks guys. Kilroy, got your dm too. I’ll see how well they put my vehicle back together before I decide if I want to continue dealing with them for future work.

I am surprised they were able to get a new transmission and all ancillary parts to do the swap in just a week. Just wish they told me that’s what they were doing. Instead it was “he’s busy with another customer right now. We want to make sure you know that and not keep you on hold so you think we are ignoring you” - when that’s exactly why you gave me the same lie three times. Why would I ever set myself up for this treatment again?

This is a really informative thread. Thank you for the updates.

I have a 2022 that has the telltale sounds in 1st and 2nd. My 5 year powertrain warranty expires in 2027.

Are there any suggested proactive measures I should take before bringing it in to the dealer to be assessed? I live in Hawaii so there's only 2 dealers here. If they decide "they can't hear it", I guess I'm making my case to Ford. Would going in with video recording or anything else be advisable?

Thanks in advance.

Also, thanks to Ducati1098 for the the dealer side and technical info. Great bike by the way. I ride an 1199 and a R1.

No problem at all!
If they give you any push back, I would print out and show them the TSB for the concern (even though they should be able to find it on their own) and explain that this is the exact symptom you have.
