Need new tires, just tires or get rims now

Older pic, but my Kenda Klevers are basically at the end of their lives; 2/32 front and 5/32 rears, and next month I'm going to TN, so there's no delaying the inevitable. Question is, gonna pay it off monthly regardless, so should I be sensible with another set of Kenda Klever 35x10.5x17s or just go for 315s and new rims, as again, paying for them regardless.

I'll figure out the rims if I go big, just what to do? Thanks in advance regardless

Other than width, the 315's won't be really any taller than what you have. I don't think you'd need new rims to just get a wider tire if you are running any of the stock rims (unless you are thinking of jumping up to 13.5 or something)

I'd also go out and say, with the tread you have, no real resale value left in keeping the old rubber on the rims and trying to flip them. I'm sure you could find a buyer - someone will buy almost anything for the right price, but with 2/32 you'd be doing someone a disservice, and not really presenting any value over just bare rims.

If you had tread left, keeping the rubber on the rims and selling them as a package - mounted/balanced with TPMS installed, you could defray some of the cost (not all of it, mind you, but some). But you don't exactly have that. And OEM Bronco rims don't have much of a market - most trims you can't even give away.

Just get 315s on what you got, unless you just have your heart set on new rims already -- which is totally fine either way.

Just curous - how many miles did you get out of the Kendas? You pretty well wore them to the nubs.

If you have to put it on credit, no it would be silly.

If you can spend the money without it affecting your ability to be financially solvent: buy what you want now.

I only buy new wheels if there is a reason, such as not holding air or changing backspace/width to fit different size tires. To me money on wheels for looks is wasted money as I just need them to be the correct size, round, and hold air.
That said, my vote is just buy tires.

I actually really like my factory 2026 badlands non-SAS wheels. I will probably go with a taller tire at some point. Stock tire is the Goodyear Goodyear Territory RTs LT285/70R17. Taller/skinny tires that don't require a lift (per Google AI) are LT255/85R17 or 34x10.50R17 which are closer to 34". Most likely either Nitto Ridge Grappler or Falken Wildpeak A/T4W.

29-30k, as advertised they'd last. I do drive a lot

Other than the 30k life, they're a solid way to get 35's without finding take off sascrotch or heritage rims. If you got the budget I'd go the 315 & new rims route, this is the "I want to go from 33 to 35 but can't afford the rims part of the equation"

I love my rims, and that's why its hard, its not like I got some generic econobox rims where its like "Anythings better", I'm more of the opinion I'd love to powder coat them and then see whats next.

Yeah, wound up with the Kenda's for now, I'll probably powder coat them. I pay loans off faster than expected, it's just rather not pay twice what I will, ya know

I have the Ridge Grapplers and they're terrible in the rain. If I lived in the bay area I would get the Falkens.
