Hello!
I've been researching like crazy because I NEED to replace the stock Duelers on my white '24 Outer Banks but want to keep the best mileage and power possible given I've got the 2.3. The 275/65/18 BFG Trail Terrains look good, but look a little small if I'm going to lift a tiny bit, and I'm not jazzed about going to an E load tire.
Soooooooo, recommendations on 275/70/18 that look better, have white letters (or black that I can paint), are close in weight to the Duelers (39 pounds?), and that handle/wear/ride well?

What I've got so far:

* Grabber APT, white letters, 43.7 pounds

* Grabber ATX, black letters (would need painting), 45 pounds

Thanks for reading!

I've been looking at the same tire size and the choices you listed are about it with a SL rating. One thing I did find is a couple E load tires that are relatively light weight. The Bridgestone Dueler A/T RH-S in a LT275/70R18 size only weights 46lbs. The Firestone Destination XT is 50lbs.

Thanks for the tip. Ultimately, I like the stock wheels and ride of the OBX, so I went with the 275/65/18 Terrain Trail today. They look great and—so far—drive very well.

I'd like to have gone up in size, but at 22k miles a year, 75% of it highway, I just couldn't justify the driveability sacrifice and price.

Post a pic with the new tires.

Is there anyway you can post a front and rear shot to get an idea about how they look from those angles? Thanks!

Front pics weren't coming out well in the sun and, frankly, these pics don't really do the tire and its size/fit justice, but here are a couple that show how they fill the wheel well.

I still need to get on the highway, but up to 60 MPH, these are BARELY louder than the Duelers, and that's with the doors off and top on. With the doors on and windows down, I can't hear anything different.

I can definitely feel the weight, but it's not a bad thing at all—the tires feel more planted and roll over things rather than skipping/jumping over them...if that makes any sense.

Given that these are a nice size without having to lift (more than an inch or so up front), and given that I can totally feel the weight and could hear the tire with the doors off, I'm very glad I went this route rather than E load, heavy tires.

PS The spare even looks better!

PPS I'll update with highway details tomorrow. I've got a three hour drive to take in the morning

Thanks so much! I have the exact same setup. Factory running boards and mud flaps and this setup looks great. I was contemplating the next larger size of tire as well, but after seeing these on the exact same set up, I’m sold! Thanks again for taking time to post. Cheers!

Sure thing!

Question: what did you do about your running boards and mud flaps? Did you swap the running board sides?

I’ve got the exact same on mine, also OBX. Have 20k on them now and really can’t complain about them. I do run them a little lower on the psi setting at 30psi cold. They heat up to about 32. I can certainly feel the difference in jitteriness of the ride when they’re around 35psi. I don’t fault the tire, I fault the 65 series. Just not a lot of breathing room on the sidewall to absorb the road bumps, but 30psi seems to fix that. They’re wearing just fine, I rotate every 5k or so on 4 of them, spare stays new. They look great, handle all conditions fine. Noise is not an issue.

BFG’s can be a challenge to balance though. If I were to switch, it would be because of that. These are ok, a lot easier to balance than the K03’s in same size (but E rated). But more emphasis on the person doing the balancing. If you get someone inexperienced who’s just slapping on weights because the machine said so, then it’s a 50/50 chance for a good balance. I’ve come to learn to remove all weights before a balance to avoid too many being added.
