Hey all;
Was wondering what type of air compressors you guys be using out on trails where you have to drop Psi down to the lower numbers, and back up once you get off the trails.

I currently have one that’s not bad; but it tends to be a little struggle on the larger 35s. Any recommendations would be appreciated, specifically one which can be carried and used with the car. (Not the ones you use at home)

Currently use a 10lb C02 tank, but will be adding a dual ARB for winter time fill ups. C02 tank works best in warmer/summer weather.

I use the Milwaukee M18 inflator - I already had some big M18 batteries and a car charger. Added a LocknFlate air chuck to make it a little nicer to use.

The first question you need to answer, do I want it mounted on board?

Positive: you’ll always have it with you, you don’t need to remember to pack it, you don’t have to find a spot for it, it is handy to have even on road— sometimes another motorist might need some air.

Downside: mounting it, wiring it, extra cost depending on where you want it to mount, if you buy a new vehicle it can be time consuming to remove it and remount it, space lost permanently.

I have had a viair mounted in a Jeep Wrangler that worked fine (was installed by previous owner), I mounted the ARB single under the hood of my Gladiator that worked great(easy because there was a good spot to mount it with an existing bracket for the engine cover), I went with a dual compressor that clips to the battery for the Bronco. When I traded in the Gladiator I was planning to remove the ARB, but once I realized that I did not run all the wiring with the intent of easy removal, I decided it wasn’t worth it. I keep a portable jumper and tire inflator in the Bronco for the day to day driving, and take my 4 tire hose and compressor when I go on trips, there is no wrong way to go, hope this helps.

I really like my Morflate dual compressor. Lifetime warranty on their stuff. My last compressor had worn out motor and they sent me a brand new one! They even replaced the air chucks on my 4 tire deflator hose kit. Highly recommend a 4 tire air hose kit. Makes things easier so you’re not bending over filling up air. I would also recommend a cheap second compressor as a backup. Incase your wheeling alone and one fails. Don’t ask me how I know. 😬

Forgot to mention if I am wheeling slick rock in Moab I go down to about 10 PSI on the stock rims. No issues losing a bead. For rocky Forest Service trails I’m usually at 13psi where I plan on being in 4 low the whole time.

Faster trails and bumpier dirt roads I’m around 25psi. Really depends on how fast I’m going, if you drop too low you can feel the tires squirm taking corners. 25psi I try not to go above 50mph.

I use a all top dual cylinder compressor with a 4 tire inflate/deflate hose set up. Works great.
