I have done some searching and not crawled around underneath looking yet... (4 door Badlands)

I am going to mount my ARB Dual compressor in the cargo area of my Bronco (Don't want to do engine bay) and trying to get an idea of the best location to pull the heavy gauge (probably 6ga since ARB DUAL) from the cargo area to the engine bay. I have all the fusing etc... figured out that I will need, just wanting to see what others have done to get up inside the cargo area. I am not opposed to running the wire along the frame as I don't really want to tear anything out if not absolutely necessary.

As I see it, my options are.... (Compressor will be mounted on top of the Ford Cargo Drawer which houses all my other gear)
  • Preferred - Come down and out of the cargo area, run wrapped cable along frame and up in to engine bay, just looking for a grommet location if it exists near the cargo area.
  • Optional if needed - Run the cable along the floorboard and push it up under the trim near the doors and come through a grommet (if it exists) under either the driver or passenger foot well.
Any insight would be great.

Thanks in advance.

I'd try getting ahold of Mitchell watts from town and country on youtube. He did a very similar setup. I know there is a grommet on the drivers side firewall.

I thought there is power there on the passenger side, connected to one of the switches but I doubt it's a heavy enough gauge.

Grommets through the cargo floor are here.

I would run it like an amp. Down the wire channel under the door sills and out the grommet through the drivers firewall.

PERFECT! Thank you!

I used the hero switch wiring to work as the on/off switch for my arb singIe. It's mounted in the storage compartment under the cargo area. I ran the heavy gauge power wires out of the rubber grommet in that storage area and along the frame all wrapped up.

Those grommets end up being under the rear cargo area floor mat/cover and not the side panels. They don’t make sense for this install. You wouldn’t be able to efficiently run wires through that badly placed and tiny grommet without having issues when reinstalling the cargo floor. Would be a big bump… lopsided.

I’m looking to install amps in the little cargo space using the DV8 replacement for more room. Looks like I will have to make a new hole somewhere near the underside of the back seats. Not sure yet, still exploring ideas. I can add the new hole and grommet or I can buy the trail deck system and probably just run the wires on the cargo floor from the trim behind the back seats to the cargo tray where 2 amps will be.

This weekend I finally got started on a similar project.
1. I am running 4ga wire from the grommet in the engine firewall on the driver side down the driver side in the channel at the doorsill. Both the positive and negative lines fit there.
2. I will attach a link for the connectors i am using to plug my All Top compressor into
3. I will mount it to a shelf in the back on the driver’s side window
4. I will be able to plug and unplug the compressor for when i dont want it in the bronco
5. I am going to use a circuit breaker from the battery to a solenoid. (I cut all power to the solenoid when I am not offroading.)
6. I am undecided if i want to put the switch to engage the solenoid up by the driver or have it next to the compressor.

I’ve attached a few pictures of what I’ve got done so far and will send more when complete in another week or two.

I have run wire for a mObridge amp, wolfbox rear camera, Anker alternator charger, Ham radio antenna coax, and a 10 gauge pair of wires from the battery to a bus (in the hopes that I won't have to disassemble all the plastic AGAIN for future needs.) Most of it though the firewall and all of it along the wire trays adjacent to the doors. The Bronco is built to accommodate wiring this way, it's better than going below along the frame where it's exposed. There are YouTube videos that show how to do this.

Something to think about. There is room under the hood for the compressor. Honestly, it's much cheaper, does not take up any cargo space and it's not adding weight to the tailgate. You can run an air line anywhere you want, along the same path as where the wires would go is a option.
