You know I never thought about what you just stated, why do people cover their license plates when it’s always visible when driving, this fellow is not the only person that does it, I see it all the time people block their license plates in pictures.
I know I know, I guess I am paranoid

That isn't THAT bad. First reaction is, "Oh my goodness gracious, almost three grand in plastic!"....then I recalibrate to 2026 and think, "Hum, less than I thought".

The only question on the $500 deductible is how your insurance is going to view it. They have a way of getting their money back...and then some.

Edit: trying to be considerate of the kids in the room.

I don’t bother hiding mine. A few plausible reasons people do it?
  1. Other people do it, so they just assume there must be a good reason. 🤷‍♂️
  2. Internet paranoia. :bandit:
  3. Delusions of grandeur - thinking their online presence is significant enough to draw stalkers. 😎
  4. It’s their ATM card PIN. 🤪

I do it for the most part, because there's not a good reason not to. If people really want to find me, they can. I'm not sure looking for me would be the greatest of ideas, but they can. That said, no harm in making those google searches a little harder.

I simply don't want my location and Legal name attached in public to my online accounts. It's the whole need to know thing.

My problem is the bumper is THIN and creased badly behind the license plate so a replacement bumper is a requirement for sure. thats 1000 bucks, grill is 300ish, then a few other bits and pieces. deductible is 500 so its cheaper for me to have them do it. Otherwise? Id do it myself.

alot cheaper over all than what I thought, I was imagining closer to 10K
Are you able to have them get a Mod bumper? They are $1000 also. They also come with a bash plate (which you already have, but could sell).

I don't remember anyone saying it yet, but I will. I dislike insurance companies with a passion.

If you file a claim and they raise your insurance rates, it's no different than taking out a loan for the repairs. Only the interest rate may be different.

I filed ONE claim for a windshield and hail damage with a major insurance carrier I won't name that I had been with for 8 years. The two-bit dishonest adjuster came out and said my windshield was cracked from an impact inside the vehicle and they wouldn't cover it, and that the dents could be fixed for less than the $1,000 deductible. I didn't argue, just switched insurance the next day. It's a scam. All of it.

So for comparison, I got my grille cracked, headlight scratched, and painted front trim piece dinged last December. A Wrangler ahead of me and one lane over on the highway ran over something and kicked it up in the air. It came spinning at me with no time for me to react. I saw some white but have no idea what it was.

This ended up being a $1043 repair at Geico’s preferred body shop. They plastic-welded the grille crack and repainted the whole grille along with repainting the blue trim piece. They were able to buff the scratch out of the headlight lens. The bumper had very minor scuffs but I told them it didn’t need repair. After cleaning it, nothing noticeable in the bumper area other than some small paint chips on the D-ring . They claim they removed the bumper during the repair process, which Geico might have required for damage inspection purposes.

The results were excellent. Can’t tell it ever happened. Geico considered it ‘not at fault’ so no rate impact.

And this ladies and gentlemen is why our insurance costs so much. A $1000 repair with profit gets quoted at $3k. The fat makes everyone rich except the ratepayers....
