I am thinking of an install like this. How quickly does the camera get dirty and how much does water/dirt affect the picture?

It looks like you used mount for a rock light? More pictures would be great.

I think it’s going to depend on the trail. On muddy clay GA trails I have to wipe the front camera occasionally. I would imagine it’d be worse mounted behind the tires and harder to clean. Maybe we need a little cctv motorized wiper or washer fluid nozzle like inspector gadget

Got to admit... first rain storm and I could not see through it... But I can easily reach it so I quickly wiped it off and all was good again.

The mount for the rock light I custom made and stretches between two skids..... This has it's own mount right next to the rock light mount, but I am still designing something a little more robust that might protect the camera better... I am still playing with it.

The factory front camera has washer fluid run to it. I wonder how hard it would be to tap that so it could be washed.

Have you had the chance to refine this setup much?

This is the exact camera configuration I'm interested in, and I'm surprised it isn't more common? Would be great to know any new updates or issues you might've come across before I give it an attempt myself.

Changing up my design again after adding a transmission skid. It is still mounted the same and seems to be operating perfectly fine. A couple of different iterations on the mount obscured the peripheral view a bit and had to scrap those ideas.... So... like I said, still on the same mount and still working as I had hoped.

Good to hear, glad it's holding up.

Not sure what type of wheeling you do, but have you taken it through many water crossings? The camera is supposed to be waterproof but I'm always a little sceptical when push comes to shove.

And out of interest, do you find yourself looking more at the stock trail camera or the underbody camera offroad?

I do not do many water crossings.... I have had it in rainy conditions though and it does get quite gummed up but it is easy to wipe clean. For trails I do a lot of mountain trails and with a group here I hit the desert from time to time and that will sometimes get into the rocks.

And well I am typically looking out the windshield ... LOL... occasionally glancing at the trail cam and then use the underneath wolfbox as I approach an obstacle and as I go over it. So I use it less than the others.... BUT I find it very useful at the most opportune/ "sketchiest" times.

Oh... and I run a can opener... so I run my 360 cameras almost all the time... Even on the highway.

Yes, I've been hoping for your post to pop back up. Loved your idea and wanted to give you props.
I ran with your trail cam location and added a spring loaded hinge with a rock guard. Zero bouncing or vibration and stays surprisingly clean.

Great pics and thanks for the info.

My backyard is in the tropics, with a lot more mud and rivers but way less technical rock crawling. I'll just have to see how waterproof the Wolfbox really is!

Man that is nice! makes mine look as crude as it actually is....WELL DONE! So results? how do you like it? has it helped at all? What do you think? I love that you even gave it it's own skid plate!

It’s been working great. Only been out a few times since the install and nothing difficult, so I haven't had a chance to test the skid plate. 1st videos show me aiming for a rock but it wasn’t large enough to rub but lol, sadly large enough to get hung up on my rear diff.😝 2nd and 3rd are in the snow and dunes.
It tuck up pretty high and surprisingly stays cleaner than my rear cam. But it has been a dry winter.
So yes, diggin it! Thanks again for the idea.
