I’m thinking about getting a 360 degree camera, probably the GoPro Max 2 as I’m already invested in GoPro’s ecosphere with Black 11 and 12 cameras. Does anyone have experience with the three brands on the market. How & where do you use it, do you like it, length of an selfie stick you use, editing ease, etc.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks. Contented.

I have an insta360 x4 . If I convince the wife to drive occasionally I’ll boom out a 10’ stick to make it look more like a drone shot. Image on the x4 is ok but the x5 is better since it has a bigger sensor. I still don’t like how the image isn’t sharp on the insta’s though. And if you use a 10’ stick just be mindful of trees lol

regardless which brand you get, post editing the video is a lot more work so it is a bit of a pain.

only thing I like about GoPro is the cloud storage. But constant overheats is a turn off for me so I just bought the Dji osmo 6 to replace my GoPro 10 for an action camera.

I have been shooting 360 for quite a while. Current camera is the X5. I run mine on an extended selfie stick mounted to the bull bar with the camera out in front of the Bronco. Great effect! I edit and reframe in Final Cut Pro for our YT channel. Attaching a link to a recent video to show some of the shots that can be had. Insta360 does have an editing studio app, but at the moment you cannot export X5 video in high resolution. I do not know why they cannot fix that bug. There is a fairly steep learning curve to Final Cut and it is an apple product so you have to run it on a Mac https://youtu.be/LlIV9QH_ftw

How long of a selfie stick do you use on the front bumper and how is it mounted?

Stick is approximately 4’ with an adjustable clamp that clamps onto the base of my GMRS bull bar antenna. But I’ve done suction mounts to the windshield and hood also, and to the roof of our camper. It all depends on the shot you want.

Thanks much. Watched you video, very good. Does it cover the trail beginning to end? We’re going to be in the Ouray area late July and were thinking about that trail.

Thanks again. Karl

No place on earth like Ouray and the San Juans.

You’re welcome! Not every mile. Enjoy your trip. The San Juan’s are incredible. I’m working on the last video of the trip right now. We go into Ouray then take Engineer Mountain Road to the Alpine Loop, then back to Silverton. It was a wild ride. Please subscribe so you don’t miss it.
