Paint chips from rocks? DIY protection with Heavy Texture Chip Guard Spray by SEM

Every time I see that image thumbnail of the spray cans at the top of the forums list, for a split second I think I’m looking at two black-and-tans

Anyway, the application of the chip guard spray came out really well. Looks great!

I thought about doing that on mine, but I doubt any attempt to color match Hot Pepper Red would look good. I’d probably go carbon black to match the bumpers and wheel lip flares.

Haha, nice! Thank you. It actually exceeded my expectations too. I think for red, I'd just go black as well. For reference I'm using Krylon all-in-one Dark Metal Metallic. If I could not find something that matched, ordinary black would be fine -- and ties the unpainted fenders together better maybe?

Yeah. I painted the center of my grille with black truck bed coating that matches the color and texture modular bumper pretty well. So I would probably use that for consistency. But I haven’t felt the need yet - I have front mudflaps, and so far they have prevented rock chips to my rockers.

I used thick textured vinyl for those areas, before I got any chips/damage...

Rokbloks do wonders on gravel roads. My 2024 SAS 2 door has the wide long version and has spent 3 of the 4 months I've had it and 4,000 of the 6,000 miles it has on offroad, heavily graveled roads between 30-60 mph and has very little damage from rock chips.

They also are easily removable on trails with no tools with 2 thumb screws.

I've got a set of RB's on the way... I can't really tell by your pic, but, what rails/steps do you have? Did the RB flaps install (with rails) ok? I will ask OP, but it looks like they have the Bronco rock rails, but, before I let it go - Have you been out, maybe rock crawling a bit, where you actually took off the extensions and used them? How did it go? Probably a question for any flap user, but, have you had any issues where you maybe regret havinf flaps? at all? after a week, I can not imagine NOT having flaps. TIA!

I have taken them off just to test how easy is was but have not needed to since install. They are VERY flexible, but i don't plan on doing any serious rock crawling with my rig. There is a bit of a fitment issue in the front two which they suggest removing the plastic wheel well liner retainer where the flaps go to allow them to "set back" against the wheel well, but i didn't do that and they seem to look fine albeit they sort of flare forward a bit. It's not enough to bother me at all and seems to deflect rocks inboard under the vehicle instead of throwing rocks out and to the side.

The steps are Westin HDX steps, which I'd rather have just the sliders but my wife needs them to get into the Bronco. They're unusable for me because they're too high to use as steps (if i stand on them in just have to kneel down into the truck) and the just end up hitting my knee climbing over them, but there functional for my wife and they look good IMO. I do think the step portion is actually a little more help in the deflecting rocks dept as there is some rock damage underneath the front part of the step. No clearance issues between the steps and the flaps.

While this protects the lower areas, I have seen where people are mentioning getting rock dings well up their doors.

Yeah I have one half way up my door smack dab in the middle and I have the Rokbloks…I’m assuming it happened when I had them off for the trails but who knows

This was the case for me. Easily going up 1/3rd of the door.obviously less the further up you go. Personally I find rock chips to be the equivalent of a good patina on a nice leather bag

Installed rokbloxkz and decreased the dinging sound against my door to be almost non existent now and super easy to take off if you need the clearance.

Seems like a good option though for someone who doesn’t like mud flaps.
