My honest opinion, the Jeep wave has become corny and it's known as their thing. Copying something that is corny makes it even more corny. Not hating on the people who do it, just won't do it personally.

Wave between two people driving soft-top CJ7s with no heat in 20 degree weather: camaraderie through mutual suffering

Wave between two people in brand new vehicles in the Trader Joe's parking lot: corny

EDIT: In summary - the Jeep wave became corny once it got 4 doors and an automatic transmission.

Because the only wave we have gotten is the middle finger variety from Ford at every opportunity to change the deal for which we all signed up for the worse.
👆 This. This right here. Yes.

Y'all who are saying " I am not waving at people" are obvs not from the South. Out in the country, we wave at lots of people.

I wave at anyone who lets me merge, always wave at anyone out on the trails, wave at other boaters, etc. I’ve even waved and smiled at people giving me the one-finger salute☺ I’m not offended if you don’t wave back. 😘

Nope…it reminds me of some weird secret society insider handshake and that we’re supposed to be part of some virtual imaginary club because you have no other friends.

When I’m driving my LJ on tons w/ 40s and a poser Jeep drives by and gives me the ‘wave’ I give them the finger in return, now if you’re a fellow off-roader and driving something built, I’ll give you a favorable acknowledgment, nod, thumbs up, etc…but for the stock rides whatever…why not a Camry or Accord wave if that’s what makes you feel a sense of ‘belonging’. Ugh!

REASONS:
1. I don't have my Bronco.
2. I have only seen 1 Bronco.
3. I don't know what the Bronco Wave is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So....I will just wave like I do to other motorcycles....just a ..........wave.

I haven't had a Faygo since I moved from Brighton 32 years ago. Not even uttered the word Pop....It's Soda

Bless their hearts. I'm adding them to the prayer list.

In the South, they don't sit around trying to figure out how to wave or whether or not anyone is going to do it. It's a natural, friendly thing. This Bonco wave nonsense is not that. As mentioned above, it's contrived. Folks need to just let it happen or not happen. They don't need to talk about it. They don't need to do what the Jeep folks do, either. If it happens, it happens. Don't force it.

You can't organize a "Bronco wave". If it ever happens, it needs to be organic and natural. It won't need an introduction.
I completely agree with an above poster that 4 doors and an automatic killed the Jeep wave. At that point, with that many new owners, the Jeep wave became a conscious "thing" instead of something that just happened without thought. It was definitely based upon mutual suffering and respect prior to that.

It's fun, not contrived. What is this negative madness? My son is "Jeep folk" and he thinks it's cool to wave at other people driving a Jeep. I just will not wave at whiners driving a Bronco. Be sure that everyone who does not want me to wave at them sends me a picture and your build description and I will gladly ignore you.

Geesh.

And the Jeep folks probably just did it. They didn't sit around discussing who would and who wouldn't or what the proper wave should be. They just did it. That is not contrived. That just happened naturally. All this talk about whether or not anyone else is doing it is what wakes it contrived. Just let it happen. If you want it to happen, then do it. We don't need to talk about it. Just do it.
