Price protection is a well documented promise from Ford. I’d say a legally binding promise. It probably can be argued by some dealers that it only covers MSRP but, the way it was stated in the emails from Ford it will be quite a mess for a dealer that chooses to ignore it I bet.
It's not legally binding. Ford has always said in the fine print that final pricing is between you and the dealer. And now that dealers are regularly charging above MSRP, they've gone a step further and updated the FAQ to explicitly state that final price is between you and the dealer.

Legally speaking Ford is not selling the vehicle to you... they are selling it to the dealer at invoice price, and the dealer turns it around to sell to you at (hopefully) MSRP.

Essentially... MSRP truly is the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, not the final retail price.

so........I have an antimatter blue black diamond on order. Can anyone provide clarity on this debacle? Without trying to sound like a whiny little bitch, wtf happens with my color and modular bumper since I don't have a build date and I'm obviously being pushed to 2022? Is it fair to strip order holders of their builds for absolutely zero reason?
Umm.......

You still have this week of scheduling. If no VIN, then you will be ordering a MY'22 Bronco. AMB will not be an available color. With regards to the modular bumper, you will have to add it to your MY'22 Black Diamond order. The capable bumper is standard.

Your next question will be on what happens to the price guarantee - Ford hasn't clarified the specifics. Most dealers are probably going to apply common sense. The MY'21 price of the specific trim with standard options will be honored for the MY'22 order of the specific trim with standard options. If options change, then the cost will be additional most likely.
What is the capable bumper ?

I may be wrong but I read on a previous thread that SEP 30th was the last day they scheduled builds for 2021. So if you don’t have a VIN, it’s a wrap

Why is 'Capable' more $$ than 'Heavy Duty' ?
Is either one mechanically stronger ?

Am going for '22 model -
If I were to take a guess out of left field, the more complex shape of capable makes it require more material and be harder to press.

Personally I don't like the look of it. It's better than standard but worse than modular

I wouldn’t worry about the bumper too much. Once the aftermarket catches up, there’ll be plenty of cheap stock bumpers of all varieties to be had.

Seems like they have no control over price protection. If they did, dealers would not be marking it up when they arrive.
Yeah but Dealer mark up has nothing to do with the price protection from FORD. Dealer mark up is a local issue and quite frankly.....when ordering everyone should have had an agreed upon price IN WRITING. I have signed emails, signed sales agreement and a signed addendum...assuring MSRP and a specific price. I learned my lesson a long time ago.

It's just speculation about the modular bumper not being subject to price protection. Personally I think that fear is overhyped, at least on Ford's end. Decent chance they even let folks trade trims, SAS status, or doors and maintain MY21 MSRP pricing. On the other hand, with a lousy dealer all price bets are off -- for MY22 reorders they can choose to randomly jack the price of even a plastic bumper base Bronco for no reason if they want. Some could view a new order as a chance for a new negotiation. Any big fears about the reordering process should probably be directed at the dealer level.

AMB is definitely gone in 22 though. That's known.

both steel. I imagine they're charging for foglights and tow hooks. The capable bumper will be standard equipment on 2022 BD/Badlands.

Dearest Karen,
Thank you for your quick and witty contribution to the thread and congrats on your fast turnaround order/build date. Glad you didn't have to wait as long as the bulk of us. 😘
