I think that information was correct at the time, but there have been new developments since then (e.g., Delta-variant COVID shutdowns of chip suppliers in Malaysia).

“More than 50 international chip vendors operate fabrication plants in Malaysia, which is also home to many semiconductor packaging and testing facilities. The country recently imposed its fourth lockdown as it reported consecutive daily records of coronavirus cases.”

Infineon production outages compound automotive chip supply crunch
Great example. We want to believe we're "past" COVID but we aren't at all. Especially when realizing how much further along in vaccinations we are in the US than many countries.

I'm afraid the next 6-8 months are going to see a lot more uncertainty globally and continue to impact supply chains significantly.

This is the problem with what we want-there is no way to set anything in stone right now.
I don't really agree with this, Ford knows exactly how many of each commodity is being delivered every week, and they could use that information to plan a much more conservative production schedule to base ETAs off of for the tens of thousands of us in limbo. Basically I can see no legiitmate reason they still cannot have delivered on their early promise of an ETA in May of this year. It seems more like they won't deliver on that promise, probably because the data indicates bad news and they want to limit cancellations.

it may just be that the planned volume and availability of the dealer stock 4 door soft top units is quickly trending downward. After all, you can't build the "less desirable" units if you can't build anything at all.
That's about the only good thing out of this... especially since I stopped at a dealer on saturday for a test drive only to find out that ANY Broncos they have available for sale will get ADM!

My comment was directed at the stellar communications Ford does or doesn't do. In the past this type of behavior wasn't really an issue, but when you have the number of booked orders from reservations, which is their new business model, there should be a bit more transparency to those people supporting your bottom line and your job.

I couldn't disagree with this more - they appear to have no idea what's actually going to be delivered next week. They had full production planned for the next couple weeks and are suddenly shutting down.

Suppliers in every industry right now are simply not able to deliver. And it's a surprise. Food trucks show up at restaurants and just don't have what they were supposed to. Sherwin Williams just runs out of paint because suppliers don't show up. Things that are scheduled to be delivered are canceled - not in advance, but when they are supposed to be delivered.

It's actually getting worse in some segments.

The idea that Ford knows anything exact enough to project 120,000 orders is simply unrealistic. They can't accurately project a couple of weeks right now.

If the chip shortage is for auto stop-start they can disable it on mine and I don't need the $50 credit they're giving out like on the F-150.
I’ll sweeten the pot - I’ll pay an extra $50 to get this stupid feature disabled.

Thanks for the update! Has there been some kind of gag order in place? I don't understand why it's so difficult for them to put out a mass email and let people know the deal. A tiny scrap of official communication would go a long way right now. Why all the radio silence?
It sounds like the "situation" is quite fluid and changing rapidly...and not in a good way. If Ford does not know the impact, how can they provide an accurate update?

If Ford provided a generic update such as "commodities are more constrained causing a delay", people would complain that is was too broad. If Ford provided specific information such as "production will be delayed X weeks" and then it turns out it's 2X weeks, imagine the bitching and complaining then.

Just my 2 cents...I believe Ford is letting the information leak out. And this way Ford can backtrack since it's not official.

That's what 'ETA' means, it's a rough estimate. I never said they know what is going to be delivered in the future, but they better know what has been delivered in the past. You take the floor (aka the bottom of a given time slice) of what has been delivered in the past up til now (so a sliding window), use that to project to the future, and build a data model to ' conservatively estimate' what quarter (or even half year) orders will be fulfilled within.

Imagine if we started making more products in the US instead of outsourcing to other countries
