Everyone afraid of design problems needs to go look at Webasto’s job site. ~60 jobs in the roof plant.
Right. We know from people that work there on this site that its not a design issue anymore it's production. They have said they're up to 150+ a day now

I'm sure once they get a stable, vaccinated staff for shifts, the roofs will start rolling out quickly. Should help with Ford's issues. Of course, Ford could create their own roof plant, and that would show their true commitment to the Bronco brand......

They couldn't create one in a timeframe that would fix this bottleneck, safe to say that's why ford is breathing down their neck on their line

I'm still holding out for the 2 door modular hard top. I had a 2 door wrangler hard top. The wind and buffeting was ridiculous with the windows rolled down. Removable rear windows and or gunner hatch should eliminate that problem. Plus there is no factory soft top choice.

I don't disagree that it would take some time, but it could be done in time for the MY'23, then they don't have these reliances in the future.

Well maybe if they can't get the moulded in colour tops they will give away the modular tops for free.💡

Even if the bottleneck is Webassco, this ultimately is FORD supply chain management's responsibility.

Perhaps have more than 1 sub contract(vendor) in place for hardtops?!?

FUBAR
Yup, since the entire world had a contingency plan for the world shutting down for months.

This type of planning should have pre-dated covid.
If the supplier is shut down and resulting delays because the world is shut down, Ford's just supposed to magically have another also shut down supplier available?

I think they're saying that for a part as critical as the roof, there should be other suppliers on deck. Webasto can't possibly hold a monopoly on creating roofs for cars, could they?
fixed it for you...

Yep, I gave up WildTrak because the all black everything needed the Mod top to be black as well, It was painfully obvious months ago that it being available in 2022 did not mean in January (or Spring for that matter), if they get it done at all, might just blacken up the MIC some more. When they gave up on the tops for the FE's, there was no doubt that they supplier stopped working on it. Once (if) the MIC is sorted out, then maybe they will start on the Mod top. Different material, so different factory (at least different line). I expect they announce late 2022 availability for the Mod top next December. Once people figure out the GY tires did not get the three peak snow rating, I expect the WT orders will fall even further.
My philosophy changed from, " order what you want and hold steady"... to quickly realizing what you realized.

Now it's-- "just get the Bronco in your driveway, then later on Make it how you want it"

To that effect, I caved and swapped the black shiny top for MIC. Knowing in the future if I still want the black mod, I can just order it from a local Ford dealership

short answer: Yes.
I manage a factory that is THE only supplier for a specific part for a fortune 50 company.
Every single rejected part for a nonconformance hits us in the gut and we do a complete PFMEA document on it. Every year we are asked to improve metrics such as quality, cost, production.
All of our metrics are good, as we have had 100% on-time delivery for going on 12 years now, two rejects for all of 2020.
Every 5 years they do a formal "supplier readiness and compatibility" study.
Basically that means they look at the supply base and decide whether they want to continue to do business with you or give the production to another company.
Even between those 5 year audits we are reminded quite frequently that there are other fish in the sea if we lose our focus. Those other fish are not as opportune based on any one (or all 3) of the above metrics, but large-scale manufacturers like Ford do not hesitate to invest some capital into a new supplier with certain...expectations. But every company out there who is #1 for a manufacturer has a #2 competitor waiting in the wings. Believe me.
We weren't always #1. And if we lose our way, we won't be #1 again.
The customer I supply has even sent their own workforce to another supplier (not a competitor for me) to help them get back on track with quality and production.

All that to say these multi-billion dollar companies aren't going to sit on the sidelines for long, waiting for suppliers to get with the program. And I can guarantee they aren't sitting with their hands folded in a very patient and understanding manner.

I disagree. You aptly describe the reactions of powerful company when their main business is in jeopardy.

And if the Webasto fuck-up had threatened to bring the F-150 line to a standstill, I think the bottleneck would have been resolved long ago. Its been clear to me for quite awhile that Ford's "B-Team" is in charge of Bronco

I'm so glad that Ford isn't in charge of the food supply chain or the electric grid.
