Why No Published MPG ?

Seems Ford has been under criminal investigation by DOJ, CARB, EPA and Canadian EPA for how they calculated mileage. Looks like DOJ and CARB have dropped their investigations, but EPA and Canada have not. They are also involved in a class-action lawsuit for overstating fuel economy for F-150 and Ranger.

Is this why the mpg ratings haven't been published, because the testing methodology has been, and continues to be, under investigation at state, federal and international levels?

No - the MPG hasn't been published because the powertrain calibration hasn't been finalized and won't be until before OKTB. Once everything is complete then they can run the emissions cycle, proving they're complaint, and then calculate the MPG from the cycle.

The EPA doesn't do any testing. Manufacturers self-certify. EPA sets the test profile and the emissions limits.

@shoelessjoe You didn't read the article, did you? Ford does the testing, with what is supposed to be a certified test.

@L8apex does it matter though if the testing methodology is flawed, or questionable? You may be right.

I think one of the problems is that with the turbo you can get boost, or you can get good mpgs. There isn't much of an in between there. A lot of people don't understand that, and Ford does a piss poor job at letting them know.

My Ranger 2.3L gets great gas mileage when I pay attention to starting off from a stop. But, I can change that quickly if I want to have fun.

I think a good estimate for MPG would be the exact same on the 2.7L for the F150s and probably 1-2 less than the Ranger for the 2.3L.

Real world of course I would expect 17-18 mixed driving, which would be phenomenal.

Go by Fuelly estimates.

My experience with the 2.7L was 17MPG mixed driving and 21-22 as high as 23 on the highway. Which is worse than the 5.3L V8 Chevy of the same year fwiw.

They come out with projected mileage well before production. They've manufactured more than a couple hundred Broncos and production goes into full-swing in just several months. They don't know what mileage will be for a vehicle that uses the same engines on a similar platform?

I have never seen a projected mileage for pre-production vehicles. There’s liability in that statement that any employee of a major manufacturer would recognize as a bad idea to voice.

Your real world MPG is going to be about as low as 16-17 Mixed for the Squatch and as high as probably 20-21 mixed for the base 4 cylinder. No reason to get hung up on the actual numbers as we know EPA testing on turbo engines are optimistic.

It's the norm.
