Another person on here compared CO to the stripes on the highway...which are called yellow lines. Therefore by the transitive property, CO = yellow.

I was pretty well set on CO until I found a 2021 Ranger - mustard, aka CO, is out.

I love the pictures and video I see on official Ford content but other pictures I am seeing make the Cyber Orange look a lot more like Yellow. I get that the light and angle can likely change the look but does anyone know what it will actually look like post production?
I just dropped by my Ford dealer last week to look at a CO Ranger. It is a golden yellow color in person. More golden in under clouds and yellow in the sunlight.

Just putting out the facts here:

  • The color is NOT school bus yellow. In fact, that color has been consistent for some time now.
  • As mentioned before, it's a TRI COAT!!!!! This color is going to play along with the lighting big time. It is deep, the depth to it from a pigmented topcoat is going to make the color change a lot with angle/light.
    • On a Mustang Mach-E
      cyber orange gt performance 4.webp
This picture is as true to life as I have seen. I saw it in person and in the shade it is 90%yellow- 10% orange with a "what is that?" kind-of effect from the pearl.
In the sun it flashes to a warm, golden color. Like the armor of Achilles on a Greek beach before he smote some fools.
Not like the current paint on a Focus ST.
So don't go look at one of those and bank on your CO looking exactly like it.
Tricoats do this to you.
The base is one color, the midcoat gives it a "flop" on curves and angles, direct and indirect lighting will give you different effects and depth of color.
It is a very interesting color that I think would be good on some things, but on the giant slab-sided Bronco (especially the 4 door) I think it is too much.
Just my opinion.
And I am a huge fan of paint effects. I put some kind of pearl (or several) in most every custom job I do.

Truth is truth.
It is reminiscent, strongly, to School Bus yellow (and I've painted literally thousands of gallons of that in my day) in the shade, but it is not the same.
In the sun it is amazing.

It looks like the color of a glass of 'OJ'.........not a coincidence.

Love it.

If you want it to look like carrot juice, well......maybe next year.

Many people will call this color "yellow" because of their perception of how they THINK yellow looks, but not based on the definition of what yellow actually is. I have no problem with people casually referring to it as what they think it is. BUT.....

By definition, Cyber Orange is not yellow, and it can be proven.

Yellow by definition is a primary color, which is a color that cannot be created by mixing 2 different primary colors.

Orange is a mixture of yellow and red, 2 different primary colors. So, really orange is any mix of those 2 with a simple tendency towards "more yellow" or "more red". Cyber Orange is never just yellow, but often it looks darn close to yellow but since it's a blend, it's technically orange.

CO is NEVER smiley face yellow ;)

Define which highway stripes :)

Defining all road stripes as yellow is very subjective and incorrect. Which is fine, but you can't say CO looks like all road stripes... So that definition falls apart pretty quick.

There are definitely yellow lines and orange lines on our roads....

Would you say your video accurately depicts how your eyes and brain perceived the color?

If yes, then I say, "works for me!"

You can find them on most street corners in the morning and afternoon. ?

Nope, this one has the white top! But I still want the lights, the flippy stop sign, and that yellow stick in the front that I can nudge people along with. All driven by the accessories switches!

Amen.
We paint two different yellows at my FT job. I have to use color standards and a spectrophotometer with a maximum Delta E of 1.0 variance to inspect it.
Delta L is dark to light
Delta a is the green-red variance
Delta b is the blue-yellow variance.
Those 3 combined give you an overall Delta E result.
And I've had to repaint more than once to see the yellow come out more "blue" or more "lemony" than it should be. Especially if you do a spot repair and buff. Sometimes it is a halo of a totally different color.
But in the end what we paint is actually an orange and not 100% the primary yellow hue.

Well said.

Never seen this shade of school bus yellow. I rather like it!

Still want to see it in person though.

Who gives a sh_t what you call it?

Yellow is a primary color, you cannot have any shade of orange without it. Orange also has some red (another primary color). Definitely more orange than red, but again, who gives a sh_t. If you like, order it.

I'm getting Cyber Orange because it pops and looks amazing in light and changes and is a lot less boring than people who argue about color shades.

The video is pretty much how I remember it. It was a mostly cloudy day and the video was shot when the sun popped between the clouds.

It is an interesting color. Looking at Chrome Yellow online, I think it is a modern, metallic version of Chrome Yellow.

If I order a ā€˜21, it will be to specifically get this color before Ford removes it as a choice for ā€˜22.

Good thing Ford isn’t just offering Black. Blue that is really black, Gray that is really mint green, Orange that is really yellow. Real world problems for those of us looking to solve real problems!
