Custom painted calipers w/ SAS package?

Does anyone have experience with custom calipers? Trying to do my research but not sure where to start without going to a shop and talking to a mechanic. But this forum is awesome and full of really knowledgeable people

I'm pretty set on my color combination. Think a mango color would go well with the wildtrak badge and a51

Here's a cgi of my build

Here's the custom caliper (or similar) I want to throw on it

1. Do calipers come in different sizes? Like do I need to make sure I get the right one for the wildtraks wheels and tires?
2. This shouldn't take more than an hour of work to put on at a shop right?
3. Are there any downsides to custom brake calipers?
4. Is it really important that I have my dealership shop do this because they would, know the Bronco better? Or is it ok to support a local shop that does this all the time?

Can have any shop install your brake and rotor combo. There are pleanty of sizes for calipers and rotors. You also have to decide on pistons size. There are many things that go into swapping brakes.

They need to be properly sized to the braking system to maintain effectiveness. In multiple aspects.

It will take over an hour. The system will need to be bled.


Maybe just paint the factory calipers, mangolicious? It would get the same effect...

1)Yes - different sizes and # of pistons - relative to overall rotor size and swept area.
2) Wrong - replacing the calipers will also require the brakes to be bled you also need to make sure that the master cylinder is able to support whatever new calipers you put on. I'd figure on 2-3 hrs. I did brakes and shocks struts on my Fusion and it was like 6-7 for all 4 corners.
3) unless you have wheels to "display" them it's alot of extra money for something you wont see, but they will likely be an improvement over stock
4)I don't think it really matters they aren't carbon ceramic or anything crazy so you should be fine.

I just want to focus on the calipers. This is entirely cosmetic.
Is it as simple as, the larger the caliper, the more effective the braking? From a functional standpoint I don't want any changes. I just want the colored calipers, if I'm making sense

Wildwood is for car shows. Brembo is for real performance vehicles. Both will be a waste on the Bronco though.

That's a stock painted caliper on my Fusion - G2 Caliper Paint - comes in several colors. If you are doing it right after you buy - great - if not you may need the ability to sandblast to get a good clean base - or alot of elbow grease.

I was planning to do it pretty soon after driving the vehicle off the lot.
That color you chose looks clean and just the right amount of shine. Good job

Factory Acid Green brakes on my Cayenne - massive caliper compared to Fusion

If your looking for looks, go for it, but they are not cheap and in order to get increased braking, you need to go bigger diameter rotors. The high dollar monoblock calipers (machined from one piece of metal) flex less, but only really benefits very high braking pressure and help with braking consistency. There are modifications to the caliper pistons for cooling etc, but these really only help racecars. Trucks just need bigger diameter rotors, for more braking leverage.

Caliper installs are not hard to do after watching a YouTube video, but any auto shop can handle this no problem.
