Recall 26S55: 2021-2026 Bronco - Engine Compartment Wiring Harness Repair [July 23, 2026] -- 590,000k units affected

Does this mean that purchasing a Bronco that requires this recall is impossible? There are a couple Bronco’s with great prices sitting on lots near me rn. After checking their VIN numbers they require this fix and I’m assuming Ford won’t allow these vehicles to be sold?

I have a deal pending right now because of this. Was supposed to take delivery Tuesday , that turned into thursday, Then Today. Just got a call the fix might not be ready until september.

I personally think the hard stop on deliveries is stupid. They should allow you to make an informed decision if you're willing to take delivery of the vehicle and provide a waver releasing them of liability if YOU CHOOSE to take the vehicle as it is.

I think they're not allowed to cut and use butt connectors. It has to be plug and play and I assume that wire doesn't unplug from the mirror.

Yeah, that mirror [harness] is not a serviceable part. There are connectors at the spot and indicator lights, heater, and the motor etc. but maybe it’s difficult to feed the harness thru the arm?

I thought I might need a new mirror motor and found that I can’t buy just the motor - I would have to buy the entire mirror assembly. Luckily I fixed the motor myself.

Started looking around today and found on the drivers side a wrapped wire which looks like it goes to the mirror. The wire was actually pinched between a bolt and the front hood hinge. I was able to gently free it up using a plastic trim tool. This would have definitely worn through eventually by raising and closing the hood. Attached are some pictures of both the passenger side and driver side.

They should at least give the points to inspect even if they don't have a repair yet.

How does it work with Demo`s? If there is a stop sale surely I shouldn't have been able to take the vehicle for a test drive and start the deal if the dealer knew they couldn't legally sell/demo it?

Yeah, much more extensive than I expected. But I guess they have the 15 reported incidents of fire without the ability to pinpoint the exact problem point on each passenger side harness — but now they have liability. So the fix seems to be wrap and tube ALL of them.

I guess once you’re in there doing it, might as well do it up. I’ve checked all of mine and they look fine (at 11000 miles), but they do contact frame edges. The Bronc is not the tidiest engine compartment out there.

The subject of accessories (i.e. on-board air compressor) that may interfere with resolving this recall was mentioned earlier. It might be prudent to remove the compressor before having the recall completed at the dealer. Looks like vehicles that are still within the 3yr/36K factory warranty don't need the additional labor approved. Those vehicles that are out of the factory warranty, need to get the approval before completing the recall. In either case, it looks like up to a half hour will be approved. After that, the owner will be on the hook for the labor associated with the accessory removal/install.

With deductive reasoning, I came to that conclusion. It states clearly up to a half hour. They can spend the half hour just removing the compressor and I suppose leave it on the passenger floor so you don't have to pay for additional labor.
